Our new exclusive details how Sasha Calle and Michael Keaton are connected in The Flash. It's a fascinating new development.

With the DC Extended Universe about to introduce their own version of the Multiverse when The Flash finally releases, there have been a number of different questions around what worlds different characters will belong in. It’s a major point of curiosity and will shape how DC structures things from here on forward. Two of those questions are around how Sasha Calle as Supergirl and Michael Keaton as Batman will factor in. Well, we have an exclusive from one of our trusted and proven sources that begins to lend some clarity to these characters and how they are connected.
According to our source, Sasha Calle and Michael Keaton will be part of the same timeline and universe. In this new story, Supergirl was the Kryptonian who traveled to Earth instead of Kal-El/ Clark Kent and she had a much different story than the one we know with Superman. In this timeline, according to our source, when she arrives on Earth she’s discovered not by simple farmers, but by groups of humans who end up doing experiments on her. And it gets deeper than that. Apparently, she will have been tortured as a baby with the goal of trying to determine her origins and powers. It’s shaping up to be a much darker story than we’ve seen in the past.
Though Sasha Calle and Michael Keaton are existing in the same universe here as Supergirl and Batman respectively, it’s not quite known the interplay between the two. Judging by this new background for Supergirl, there’s some chance the character has become quite jaded over her years and isn’t quite the benevolent hero we’ve known in the past. And considering the comic books, and even recent DC movies, have pitted Kryptonians against Batman, we might have a similar dynamic in this one as well. Though Keaton’s Batman is an older version and Calle is younger, the former is likely dubious, if not scared, of the power she yields.
How this plays out for Sasha Calle in her new role and Michael Keaton reprising his role will be fascinating. There’s already a sense that DC is unlocking all-new ways to take their stories, working hard to possibly distance themselves from the original Zack Snyder Justice Leaguers with these story arcs in separate timelines. The original speculation was that Calle likely existed outside the original universe, but if she’s a more jaded and possibly scarier version of Supergirl, that would be a definitive turn.
Meanwhile, it’s long been known that Michael Keaton was reprising his role as Batman/ Bruce Wayne from the original 1989 Tim Burton movie and would exist in that previous world. Ben Affleck is also set to reprise the character in The Flash so there will be two caped crusaders. It just wasn’t known how/if exactly the two would overlap, or what Keaton has seen/ done in the time since we last left him back in 1992s Batman Returns. Apparently, he’s at least aware of Sasha Calle as Supergirl in this world.
Michael Keaton and Sasha Calle are both currently filming The Flash and we caught a glimpse of the latter in costume flying around on set a couple of weeks ago. We also know they’ve filmed scenes together already as well. The story could be a major one for the DC Extended Universe with more than a few surprises along the way.
