Exclusive: Predator Series Being Discussed At Netflix
A Predator series could be happening at Netflix.
This article is more than 2 years old
Predator is one of the best action/sci-fi/horror movies of all time, and Netflix is one of the most popular and successful media services of all time. Pairing the two together would seem like a no-brainer. However, the franchise has yet to dip its toes into the world of streaming as far as an original production is concerned. Could that change in the near future? Well, we have received some exclusive information that could shed light on which direction the series could be taking.
According to our trusted inside source – the same one that has provided Giant Freakin Robot with multiple confirmed exclusive scoops that have included Bruce Campbell appearing for a cameo in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Chloe Bennet returning as Quake for a new Marvel series – a Predator animated series has been talked about over at Netflix. The idea is that this would be a mature series with all the violence fans have come to expect from the franchise. However, our source does say that these were talks that happened in the recent past at some point, and that has us wondering if the Disney acquisition of Fox – the studio that owns the rights to the Predator franchise – has affected these talks at all.
Disney is certainly trying to figure out how best to approach the R-rated properties they have acquired through Fox. Predator is obviously one they want to capitalize on but they might be seeing if there’s a better outlet for a new project. Disney has had a relationship with Netflix in the past when they licensed out certain Marvel characters to the streaming company. The idea was that these would be TV-MA and would not fit anywhere else on a Disney platform. Would Disney want to do the same thing with Predator? Or are they thinking about changing such a tactic now that they have acquired a majority stake in the streaming service Hulu? We know that an Alien series is coming to that streaming outlet. Could these discussions about an R-rated animated series jump ship over to that service instead?
A Predator animated series on Netflix would make sense when viewed through the lens of the other mature animated projects that have been developed by the streaming service. In many ways, they have become the premier provider of mainstream adult animated shows. It makes sense that talks could have gone down about figuring out an animated show based on Predator since Netflix has proven they can handle R-rated material in animation and even get good notices for it. Their Castlevania series has received a ton of praise over the years.
Perhaps we will see a new Predator animated series pop up at Netflix, or it is possible these talks happened a while ago and the idea has been passed over, at least as far as hosting it at Netflix is concerned. With Disney having such a rich history in animation, could they potentially carry over this idea to one of their own streaming services? We will have to wait and see what develops from this news.
