Exclusive: Man from U.N.C.L.E. 2 With Henry Cavill In Development
Guy Ritchie is working on The Man from U.N.C.L.E 2 with Henry Cavill returning to star.
Now that Henry Cavill has been let go of portraying Superman, it appears that more franchises are calling about his services. Through our trusted and proven sources, we can report that The Man from U.N.C.L.E 2 is being developed with Henry Cavill returning in the main role. Guy Ritchie is also returning to write and direct the sequel, though we are sure Armie Hammer will not be in it.
It is interesting that Guy Ritchie wants to make The Man from U.N.C.L.E 2, as the first one did not exactly do quite well at the box office, even with Henry Cavill leading the cast. In fact, the Cavill-led feature bombed by only securing $107 million against a budget of around $80 million. Those certainly are not the kind of numbers that would warrant a sequel, but Cavill is quite a big draw these days, so box office numbers could change dramatically from 2015 to whenever this sequel is released.
Guy Ritchie will also have to through the process of recasting the role of Illya Kuryakin, assuming that the character is going to be staying in as the partner of Napoleon Solo. Kuryakin was previously portrayed by Armie Hammer, who has since seen his career tank because of horrific accusations of sexual cannibalism and many other horrific crimes. The Man from U.N.C.L.E 2 sequel will certainly bring back Henry Cavill, but Cavill is going to need a new partner.
The Man from U.N.C.L.E 2 could also serve as the precursor to seeing Henry Cavill take on the role of James Bond, although we reported that Aaron Taylor-Johnson was in final talks to take over the coveted espionage role. Still, final talks do not mean anything if he is not confirmed to be moving forward as 007, so it could still be Cavill finding his way back to the role he has been attached to for quite a long time. Cavill and Idris Elba were two of the biggest front runners for the role of James Bond, but now things have taken a drastic turn to heavily indicate that Johnson will be Bond for the foreseeable future.
The Man from U.N.C.L.E 2 could also bring back Alicia Vikander to star alongside Henry Cavill, as she was quite fantastic in the movie. Vikander has since gone on to win Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Danish Girl, and she was also the star of the Tomb Raider franchise, though she has since been let go from the role. We would imagine that Guy Ritchie could bring her back to star alongside Cavill, which would likely be welcomed by all.
The Man from U.N.C.L.E 2 could build its own universe and franchise with Henry Cavill now being a bit more available considering he has left both DC and the world of The Witcher. The original Man from U.N.C.L.E series had its own spinoffs, which is something that Ritchie might be aiming to accomplish. Though the first movie bombed, Cavill has become a superstar since 2015, so we would imagine that a sequel would do far better at the box office this time around.
