There are so many upcoming series and movies for Star Wars. The long list only hints that there are more on the way in the works or being discussed as possibilities. Storywise, there is a huge question around the characters from the original movies. Many of the new projects pull in known figures from Star Wars canon, like Ahsoka or Andor. As they continue to have appearances by Luke Skywalker in various other series, it seems likely that they’re not planning to let him go anytime soon. So what are their plans? We haven’t learned of anything moving forward yet, but we have now heard that they’re talking about it. A trusted and proven inside source for Giant Freakin Robot has shared that a Luke Skywalker series is being discussed.

Our source shared that the Luke Skywalker series being discussed is centered around a Jedi Academy storyline. Based on recent episodes of Star Wars shows, it would seem like they’re setting audiences up to see more of Skywalker as a Jedi Master, which would make sense for where a series could go, however that’s only speculation for how the new series would fit in. We’ve learned that they’re discussing the series idea, but that means they’re still working on these details.

Of course, what many fans will want to know is whether Sebastian Stan is replacing Mark Hamill in the Luke Skywalker series. We have no idea about this, but we’d speculate that the folks at Lucasfilm don’t know yet, either. At this point, what we heard is that they’re discussing a series for Luke at the Jedi Academy. One of the topics has to be who will play the character and how they’ll handle that. In Boba Fett, they’ve gone a lot farther with the CGI for a de-aged Mark Hamill. Some people think that’s amazing. Some fans see it as a huge problem for how Star Wars moves forward.

Long before The Mandalorian or The Book of Boba Fett, fans have speculated on how this will be handled. They recast Harrison Ford for Solo, so a recasting for Luke someday seemed obvious. While there was always the option for them to retire the character and move the Star Wars universe forward without those characters, they seem to have made it clear that they’re not going to do that.

Will they continue to use de-aging technology for Luke Skywalker in his own series? They could be experimenting to see how audiences react. It’s been such an interesting and unexpected approach. Technology is at a point where they can play with doing these things instead of recasting the character. Mark Hamill has become beloved by the Star Wars fandom, and maybe they’re afraid of recasting him. If they did want to cast Sebastian Stan in the role, he’d be game for it. He was asked about it again just this week and has said that he’d love the chance.

Whatever they do, a Luke Skywalker series at the Jedi Academy sounds promising. Will it include the years with Ben Solo? How will it work with the other series currently happening on Disney+? If they do recast Luke Skywalker, will that mean Mark Hamill officially ends his time in the role? At this point, that seems hard to imagine. He keeps coming back. Whatever they do, there are going to be a lot of opinions from the fans on how they handle this one.
