Ever since Johnny Depp was (mostly) victorious in his controversial defamation suit against his estranged former spouse Amber Heard, the world has been waiting for the answer to one question: when do we get more Captain Jack Sparrow? There might be actually a few more questions in the air, but the potential return of Depp to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is a pretty big one in the entertainment world. According to our trusted and proven sources, while we may not be getting a full movie, Johnny Depp is reportedly currently in talks to appear in Pirates of the Caribbean 6.

As we reported earlier, the widely spread rumor that Disney was hotly trying to get Johnny Depp back for Pirates of the Caribbean 6 has been declared to be false by the actor’s representatives. Reportedly, Disney was offering Depp a $300 million payday to return to the franchise (it is unknown how many alpacas might have theoretically been offered). While it is currently up for debate about whether he was approached for that dollar amount, it seems the actual discussion is whether Johnny Depp could be coaxed into making a cameo for a prospective Pirates of the Caribbean 6.

When the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise began in 2003, probably very few people would have guessed it would become a franchise with multiple billion-dollar installments and the defining role of Johnny Depp’s career. Even that we would still be talking about a maritime franchise based around a theme park ride nearly twenty years later was by no means guaranteed (and after all, it is not like it worked out for The Haunted Mansion). But here we are, wondering if Johnny Depp, fresh off one of the most feverishly-followed celebrity trials in recent history) will actually pass the swashbuckling torch to someone else in Pirates of the Caribbean 6.

There have been reports that Disney has been looking to expand the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise for quite some time now, which had become extremely dependent upon the presence of Johnny Depp for box office success. Tried and true franchise viagra Dwayne Johnson has been brought up as the potential center of a Pirates of the Caribbean spin-off; while he seems to be plenty busy being the new tentpole figure of Warner Bros’ DCEU, his Netflix movies with Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot, and a potential Hobbs & Shaw sequel with Jason Statham, it is not like he could not find some time in his schedule to share a grog or whatever with Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean 6.

Similarly, there have been frequent reports that Margot Robbie may be under consideration to take the lead on some new Pirates of the Caribbean project. The Australian actress is currently set to star with Ryan Gosling in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie (which is a fun set of words), as well David O. Russell’s Amsterdam, Damien Chazelle’s period piece Babylon along with Brad Pitt, and Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City, so she also has a pretty busy slate herself. But if we do really want more Captain Jack Sparrow, a Johnny Depp cameo in Pirates of the Caribbean 6 might be the best we can get.
