Exclusive: Henry Cavill Eyed For Captain Britain In Captain America: New World Order
Our sources say Marvel wants Henry Cavill to make his MCU debut as Captain Britain in the upcoming Captain America: New World Order.
If Kevin Feige gets what he wants, the last big-screen Superman actor will soon be the protector of Great Britain. Our trusted and proven sources tell us that Marvel wants Henry Cavill to play the mystical hero Brian Braddock aka Captain Britain. If it happens, Cavill would debut as Brian Braddock in 2024’s Captain America: New World Order.
Henry Cavill actually already expressed interest in the role of Captain Britain. Not long after the release of Marvel’s Eternals, The Hollywood Reporter published an interview with Cavill, during which they asked which Marvel character he’d want to play. The Man of Steel star made it clear he didn’t want to choose a part already taken:
“I have the internet and I have seen the various rumors about Captain Britain and that would be loads of fun to do a cool, modernized version of that — like the way they modernized Captain America. There’s something fun about that, and I do love being British.”

It makes sense that it would be during the current era of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that Brian Braddock would be introduced to the narrative. Not only does he have strong ties to the X-Men — as a regular member of the first couple of incarnations of the spinoff team Excalibur, he’s one of the few non-mutant heroes to spend a lot of time in a mostly mutant hero team — but his roots are very much tied to the Multiverse.
In the source material, the hero Marvel is eyeing Henry Cavill to play is part of the Captain Britain Corps: a collection of different Captain Britains from across the Multiverse. Considering how much the Multiverse will be involved in the next couple of Marvel phases, if Braddock is going to be introduced, now would be the time.
If Henry Cavill, or anyone else for that matter, plays Captain Britain in Captain America: New World Order, it could signal a pretty big sea change in that particular franchise. Braddock’s superhero origins are mystical in origin and up to this point, the Captain America stories have strayed from examining that side of the Marvel Universe. Both the last two Captain America films and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier are part of the espionage thriller side of Marvel.
Of course, there have already been mystic heroes in the Captain America movies, but they simply allowed other projects to dig deeper into those origins. Though she had yet to be revealed as a mystical character, Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) features prominently in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War. Likewise, Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther was introduced in that film.
If Henry Cavill signs on as Captain Britain, he could be getting a good number of his upcoming paychecks from Disney. Along with being targeted to play Brian Braddock, we learned Disney is hoping Cavill will be open to appearing in the upcoming live-action remake of Hercules as the villain Hades.
