Exclusive: Hermione Getting A Harry Potter Spinoff, Emma Watson In Talks To Return

Emma Watson left a lasting impression as the character of Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter series of feature films. She has not returned to the role since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 but fans have been hoping to see her back in her wizarding robes and waving a wand around in the air. Nothing has come to pass in that regard, but we have obtained some new information that seems to indicate the actress could be making a comeback to the role of Hermione Granger. Or maybe it won’t be her?
According to our trusted inside source – the same one that has provided Giant Freakin Robot with multiple confirmed exclusive scoops that have included Bruce Campbell appearing for a cameo in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Chloe Bennet returning as Quake for a new Marvel series – Emma Watson is in talks with Warner Bros. to return to the role of Hermione Granger in a solo Harry Potter spinoff project that would make her the lead character. We don’t know if this would be a film or a series but it does sound like the studio really wants to pursue this idea. However, it also sounds like Watson is not exactly jumping at the bit to board the production. It all depends on how much money Warner Bros. is willing to cough up to have her back.
But, they may have a breaking point since our source also says the studio is considering recasting Hermione Granger if they cannot get Emma Watson to sign on the dotted line for an agreeable salary. If that does end up happening, it will affect the direction they decide to go with the story. It is very possible that Harry Potter fans would not be happy with such a decision, especially if this proposed spinoff was set in the recognizable canon of the films. Still, it could be an opportunity to branch off and build a new arm of the franchise with a new actress. Though, we should stress that our source is telling us that Warner Bros. really wants to convince Emma Watson to return.
Hermione Granger is definitely one of the most celebrated characters in the Harry Potter series and continues to be a favorite for fans of the franchise. She is certainly more than capable of anchoring an entire film or series on her own. And Emma Watson’s return could open the door for appearances from the other stars of the movies, Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint. But, we do wonder how deeply involved J.K. Rowling would be with the series and if her significant inclusion would turn some fans off due to the controversies surrounding her.
We will simply have to wait and see if Warner Bros. decides to move ahead with this Hermione Granger project or not. If they do, we certainly hope we will get to see Emma Watson back in the Harry Potter universe for at least one last go-around as the brainy and resilient witch.
