Exclusive: Emilia Clarke Will Star In A Sex Trafficking Movie
Emilia Clarke's next project sounds like some heavy fare.

Emilia Clarke made a permanent imprint on the pop culture landscape when she portrayed Daenerys Targaryen in the seminal HBO series Game of Thrones. Although the final season of that show has been widely criticized and practically spoiled the entire experience for many fans, there is no question that Clarke herself was a trooper all the way up to the bitter end. However, she has yet to really find a breakout success in the world of cinema outside of her trip to Westeros. However, it looks like her next project could showcase a side of the actress that many have not seen before. And to do that, this endeavor will go to some pretty dark and harsh places.
Our trusted inside source – the same one that gave us confirmed scoops regarding Don Cheadle’s appearance in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Josh Brolin returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Thanos – has informed us of a new film called Bound that will star Emilia Clarke as a New York ER doctor who befriends a trafficked sex worker. Clarke’s character tries to convince the sex worker to leave her abusive boyfriend (who is also her pimp) but finds that she has to taker matters into her own hands in order to save the women from the horrific life she has become trapped in.
This certainly sounds like some heavy material for Emilia Clarke. As an actress, she has not really had a chance to make an impression on American audiences as an actress that can tackle exceptionally weighty real-world fare like the world of sex trafficking. However, she has more than proven that she has the skills and talent to anchor a project with a grounded and strong performance. Although she was undermined in the last season of Game of Thrones by exceptionally weak scripts and story decisions, there is no denying that her performance as Daenerys was a highlight of the series when it was at its peak. Seeing her bring that same kind of resolve to a difficult role like this one would be a welcome return to the kind of steely determination we saw from Daenerys at her best moments in Game of Thrones.
It would be rewarding to see Emilia Clarke find a new direction for her career after the unfortunate ending of Game of Thrones. She is clearly a talented actress who has struggled to find the same kind of mainstream success in other major intellectual properties like her appearances in Solo: A Star Wars Story or the misguided Terminator Genisys. Perhaps this kind of role would help reestablish her perception as an actress for wide audiences. Seeing her transition into an acting career that values grounded and realistic stories over fantasy could be just the right turn for her.
We will have to wait and see when Bound gets into production and what kind of particular presence Emilia Clarke brings to the film. Until then, we just hope she can find a new spark to this next leg of her acting career.
