When it’s all said and done, it might be weird if a Hollywood A-lister and talent wasn’t in the Marvel Cinematic Universe at some point during his or her career. That’s just the state of the franchise that is already massive and just going to be getting bigger over the next few years. They’ve added almost everyone it would seem and there could be more stars on the way. Giant Freakin Robot has the exclusive from our trusted and proven source that Eddie Murphy has met with Marvel head Kevin Feige and the two have discussed the actor coming into the fold.
It’s not exactly clear at this point what role or roles Eddie Murphy and Kevin Feige discussed as potential fits for the actor. With so many new projects coming down the pike in the coming years there are all kinds of possibilities on this front and we’ve seen some huge talents take parts that are all over the spectrum. Such is the way of the cinematic world with Marvel right now. There would seem to be a part, both big and small, for nearly everyone if they so chose. There’s a chance Eddie Murphy discussed a major part in a film, or it could be as simple as a cameo.
The context around even big stars appearing in smaller roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been set with previous productions as well as ones that are on the way. Consider how Matt Damon was used in some smaller, comedic parts in the Thor franchise, playing the actor version of Loki in those movies. He will be making a return in Thor: Love and Thunder. Plus, there’s been word that Bill Murray will have a role in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. This is supposedly just a one-off and had been meant to stay a secret until Murray let the cat out of the bag. These are just some examples of bigger names taking smaller roles.
This isn’t to say this is the plan for Eddie Murphy in any respect, but only to highlight that any talks about parts in the Marvel Cinematic Universe can be wide-ranging. We all know that the starring roles are also as big as they come. How it takes shape is anyone’s guess. With numerous productions firmly in pre-production and a number of more rumored coming along, there are almost too many ways for this to go to even venture a guess.
For his part, Eddie Murphy has been ramping up his on-screen performances of late after a relative hiatus for a number of years. He reprised his role as Prince Akeem in Coming 2 America when the much-anticipated sequel hit Amazon Prime Video back in March. Though critical reception was mixed, the film was a hit for the streamer with Amazon saying it was its highest-performing film for an opening weekend. Murphy was his ever-talented self, once again taking on multiple roles in the film.
And there is other big news on the acting front for Eddie Murphy. He is set to reprise his Axel Foley role in Beverly Hills Cop 4. It’s been nearly 30 years since the franchise made its last movie, but the next one is inching closer to production. It’s a joint venture between Paramount and Netflix and will undoubtedly get tons of eyeballs once it finally hits the screen. Murphy was excellent in the role, the brash talking detective who made LA his proverbial home for solving murders. Maybe the next we hear, a Marvel movie will be in the works as well.
