Captain Archer is probably not one of the more widely beloved captains in the history of Star Trek, but it is tough to argue that Scott Bakula didn’t give the role his all. If nothing else, it was Bakula’s performance that shined through the entirety of Star Trek: Enterprise. Though there has not been a ton of calls to revisit a lot of what was showcased in that particular series, fans would not turn their noses up at seeing Jonathan Archer showing up in the franchise once again. Well, it looks like that is exactly the plan for the not-too-distant future.
According to our trusted inside source – the same one that gave us our confirmed exclusive scoops regarding Don Cheadle appearing as War Machine in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Josh Brolin returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Thanos – Captain Archer is going to make a comeback. Our information says that the powers-that-be at Paramount want to bring Scott Bakula back by having him cameo in another Star Trek show and then leave the door open for him to headline his own solo series. We assume that would be dependent on how well his cameo appearance would be received. If it manages to be positive enough, they might greenlight the show.
Which series would Captain Archer pop up on? Our insider is telling us that Star Trek: Picard would be the likely option since it is probably the highest-profile Star Trek series on the streaming service Paramount+. Considering that the ending of Star Trek: Enterprise directly featured characters from Star Trek: The Next Generation, this does make a lot of sense. And it would be somewhat entertaining to see Scott Bakula and Patrick Stewart get to share some time on screen together. If nothing else, that would be reason enough to bring Captain Archer back. Or he could pop up in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds alongside Captain Christopher Pike. Either way, it would be enjoyable to see two Star Trek captains chumming it up on the screen.
It is going to be interesting to see what the next phase of the Star Trek franchise is going to be. If Captain Archer is coming back, it sounds like there will be even more attempts to revisit notable parts of Star Trek’s past. We have heard similar things regarding Avery Brooks wanting to return as Benjamin Sisko, and Kate Mulgrew will be back as Kathryn Janeway in the upcoming animated series, Star Trek: Prodigy. It certainly seems that the franchise is very focused on bringing back as many notable captains as it can. Adding Jonathan Archer to the mix makes a lot of sense with the direction the series seems to be going.
It will be enjoyable to see what changes Captain Archer has undergone in the time since the finale of Star Trek: Enterprise. At least, it will be fun to see Scott Bakula get one more crack at the role after nearly twenty years. Here’s hoping we can hear some more information about his return to Starfleet.
