Exclusive: Brie Larson Starring In Sci-Fi Series Synapse, Details Revealed
She’s visited other worlds as Captain Marvel, and now she’s visiting a virtual one. Our trusted and proven sources tell us Brie Larson will star in Synapse, Apple TV+’s upcoming sci-fi thriller series. Synapse will join the growing number of series revolving around virtual realities.
We have exclusively learned Brie Larson will lead the upcoming Apple TV+ sci-fi thriller Synapse.
Brie Larson will play a scientist in Synapse. Her character is investigating a groundbreaking technology that allows people to enter a shared virtual reality. As she delves deeper, she uncovers a conspiracy that threatens the fabric of reality itself.
With virtual reality becoming more of a part of our everyday lives, it seems like the streamers out there are looking to turn the streaming wars into virtual reality wars. Once it’s released, Brie Larson’s Synapse will no doubt find itself compared to Amazon Prime Video‘s VR-concerned The Peripheral, based on the William Gibson novel of the same name, starring Chloë Grace Moretz of Mad Men fame.
Likewise, just last week we broke the news that Spike Jonze (Being John Malkovich) is working on a series reboot of the 1984 cult classic Dreamscape for Netflix. The series plans to replace the psychic landscape of the film with a virtual reality one.
Brie Larson, with Synapse, will presumably strengthen her relationship with Apple TV, though it won’t be her first original series with the streamer. In October, Lessons in Chemistry debuts on Apple TV+, with Larson playing Elizabeth Zott, a scientist struggling to be taken seriously in a male-dominated field.
It also seems like Synapse is another example of Apple doing its best to corner the market on science fiction series detached from any pre-existing big-budget genre properties. Brie Larson’s Synapse will join a list of such Apple originals including See, Severance, Silo, Foundation, Finch, and For All Mankind.
Brie Larson In The Marvels
Long before we get to see Brie Larson in Synapse, we still have a release from her most well-known sci-fi property. After multiple delays, The Marvels will finally hit theaters November 10. Larson makes her fifth screen appearance in the film as Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel.
Larson will be joined by Teyonah Parris who reprises the role of Monica Rambeau — which she first played in Disney+’s WandaVision — and Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel. Larson had a cameo in Ms. Marvel, introducing the premise of The Marvels, that will find the three heroes inexplicably switching locations with one another.
Once we know more about Brie Larson’s upcoming series Synapse, we’ll make sure you know.
