This article is more than 2 years old
Gone are the days when A-list stars would only have their eyes set on the big screen for massive productions or award-winning possibilities. There was a time when a major Hollywood actor and actress would never even consider a television series, seeing the medium as well beneath their talent or industry cache. But now if a project has legs, whether it be a movie or series, you can bet big names are going to get involved. And that’s the case with this latest news. A Giant Freakin Robot exclusive from our trusted and proven source has it that some major names are in talks to join a very high-profile Netflix project. Brad Pitt, George Clooney, and Gary Oldman are all in line to join an adaptation of Tom Wolfe’s A Man in Full.
As of this writing, it looks like the A Man in Full series on Netflix has its sights set pretty high on who could play the lead here. With Brad Pitt, George Clooney, and Gary Oldman, the streamer is targeting one of them taking the role of Charlie Croker. Any of the three would be a major addition to the series which will adapt a fantastic book from one of the great American authors of a generation. What’s interesting, is that there is some divergence in age and appearance among these actors, meaning the streamer is definitely looking at star power with the idea that the character would likely round out a bit different depending on the casting.
With this news about Brad Pitt, Clooney, and Oldman being considered, there’s a sense that the A Man in Full series is starting to take legitimate shape for Netflix. With Regina King already on to direct, we could be looking at a sweeping show, one meant to tie in a number of different themes including race, socioeconomic status, politics, marriages, stature, societal standing, and much more. Tom Wolfe’s novel is a comprehensive look at Atlanta through the eyes of a number of different characters. But Charlie Croker, a real estate mogul is the primary focus with the book centered on his pending financial downfall as he faces bankruptcy.
Obviously, with these kinds of casting choices, it’s clear that Netflix could be targeting some award season buzz when it is all said and done. Regina King has already received a number of industry awards for her directorial work for One Night in Miami…, and considering the nature of the source material here, we are likely looking at just the kind of series that will play across a number of different through lines. Plus, adding A-list talents like Brad Pitt or George Clooney could push it over the edge in terms of huge overall ratings.
If Brad Pitt were to end up taking this role, it would continue a recent ramp-up in work for the actor who was largely off the screen for 2020 and 2021. He’s set to star in Bullet Train from David Leitch which will have him in true comedic action form as a hitman fending off all manner of killers on the titular ride. Plus, he’s got a role in The Lost City which has its own comedic bent. And finally, there will be Damien Chazelle’s Babylon which seems like it has half of Hollywood cast in it. As for A Man in Full, we are sure to have final casting decisions coming soon.
