The Star Wars franchise has been something of an institution over the last 40+ years with fans hanging on the events of the movies and eventually some of the animated offerings, to dictate much of the story around the galaxy far, far away. But in recent years, the Disney+ series have added a whole new element to things, with a chance to meet new characters while bringing back others in expanded roles. Frankly, it’s been amazing. And now we have some good news along those lines. The latest Giant Freakin Robot exclusive from our trusted and proven source has it that Book of Boba Fett Season 2 is a full-go and that Samuel L. Jackson, of all people, is returning to the Star Wars franchise. This is going to send fans’ collective heads spinning.

While our source didn’t go into great detail around Samuel L. Jackson’s inclusion for The Book of Boba Fest Season 2, one would have to presume it would be in the Mace Windu role he took on in the prequel trilogy of films. How this works into the story is really anyone’s guess though we can make some reasonable assumptions. If Mace Windu is actually just fully dead following the events of Revenge of the Sith then we could see the character come back in a flashback. This would make sense considering Mace Windu was responsible for killing Jango Fett (Boba Fett’s father) during the events of Attack of the Clones.

And, if going back in time, The Book of Boba Fett Season 2 could document some of what happened in the animated offering The Clone Wars when Boba Fett tries to avenge his father while onboard a Star Destroyer. He’s unsuccessful of course, but these two have butted heads in the past. If this next season was going to dive more into his past, then this would make a lot of sense. And it would lead to some de-aging on the part of Samuel L. Jackson, something the Star Wars franchise on Disney+ has had no issue doing before if the timing was right and a character had to step back in the mix.

There is some other chance that in Book of Boba Fett Season 2 our titular character is dealing with some of the trauma around his father’s death and “seeing” Mace Windu in some respect through this emotional battle. Or there’s a force spirit version of the character as well. In Star Wars really everything is on the table in this respect. The cool news is we are likely to wrap even more of Boba Fett’s past, and key pieces of the franchise’s historical timeline into the mix. Fans completely win when this kind of thing happens.

And it shouldn’t necessarily be a huge surprise either. Samuel L. Jackson was on record recently (via MovieWeb) that he’d asked Bryce Dallas Howard, the director of The Book of Boba Fett episode “Chapter 5: The Mandalorian”, about returning as Mace Windu. So there would appear to be at least some campaigning on his part for The Book of Boba Fett Season 2.

And, of course, the just high-level good news is that we are getting a Book of Boba Fett Season 2 at all. That hadn’t been necessarily a sure thing after the first go-around. The story, in and amongst itself, didn’t necessarily require a second round. But with the timelines of The Mandalorian and this show dovetailing completely now, there are chances to work in more stories and characters in this series. There’s a lot to look forward to.
