Update: This Giant Freakin Robot exclusive was confirmed and The CW canceled Batwoman.

Previous update: A representative from The CW has reached out to Giant Freakin Robot regarding this Batwoman news. They have said, “officially… the information about the show being cancelled is unfounded.” While we fully trust our source for scoops, we do want to offer studios the opportunity to respond to news like this and give their side of the story. According to The CW, Batwoman will not be canceled. Our original article follows.

Batwoman has been struggling to keep itself afloat when it comes to traditional television ratings. The second season had to deal with essentially rebooting itself when Javicia Leslie took over the lead role from former star Ruby Rose. And it seems like pressing that reset button has caused a number of viewers to tune out. The series has been renewed for a third season, but fans have been speculating how much longer The CW will invest in the show if the ratings continue to decline. Well, it turns out that we have some information that sheds some light on the future of Batwoman on television and the character’s role in the future of the DC universe.

According to our trusted inside source – the same one that has provided Giant Freakin Robot with multiple confirmed exclusive scoops that have included the reveal that Bruce Wayne’s parents will be evil in Robert Pattinson’s The Batman, Bruce Campbell will appear for a cameo in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and that Monica Rambeau will be a main character in the upcoming Disney+ series Secret InvasionBatwoman is looking to get canceled by the powers-that-be at The CW. It sounds like that announced third season will be the show’s last. However, our source also says that the studio does not want to dispose of the Batwoman character at all. In fact, they want to use her in other shows after her solo series has ended.

This is certainly a bummer for fans of Batwoman and especially those who have been enjoying Javicia Leslie’s new take on the character. However, the most intriguing part of this news is that the character would be popping up in other CW/DC shows. Exactly which shows would she be a part of? There are plenty of options and it would be great to see Batwoman in any one of the CW/DC shows that are currently airing. Though, our source does not say if she would be a recurring role on any of these shows or if she would only be popping up for occasional guest appearances or for the big team-up episodes that the Arrowverse has become known for.

We certainly hope that Javicia Leslie would find another steady role as the character in another series. It would be awesome to see Batwoman become one of the ensemble members on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. Or to have her be a featured character for a season on The Flash. Heck, if the Arrowverse simply won’t commit to having a recurring Batman actor, why not have Leslie show up in the successful Superman & Lois series and have those two heroes build up the kind of friendship that we normally see out of Batman and Superman? The possibilities are exciting and we definitely want to see Leslie’s Batwoman utilized to the best of her abilities.

Still, it is a shame that it sounds like Batwoman is headed for the chopping block. The CW also announced that they will be concluding Black Lightning with its current season. Canceling two series with Black leads will definitely get some people talking. Hopefully, we can learn more about what the exact future will be for Ryan Wilder and the mantle she wears.
