Exclusive: Arnold Schwarzenegger In Talks To Join The Marvel Universe
We've exclusively learned that Arnold Schwarzenegger is talking to Marvel about a future role.
Though he mostly makes headlines today for his work as a politician, Arnold Schwarzenegger is still active as an actor in Hollywood. His most prominent recent roles have seen him return for sequels, like 2019’s Terminator: Dark Fate. This could make it seem like he is fading out his work as an actor at this point in his career, but that isn’t what the head of Marvel wants to see happen. A trusted and proven source for Giant Freakin Robot recently shared that Arnold Schwarzenegger has spoken with Kevin Feige about joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
While he is not yet signed on to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s promising that Kevin Feige and Arnold Schwarzenegger are in talks about a possible future. Currently, we can confirm that they’re talking about roles for the actor, but we were unable to confirm any specific character that the actor may take on. In his past, Arnold Schwarzenegger has been a fan of franchises and leading roles. With his career a little slower recently, it will be interesting to see if he goes for a big part or takes on something less time-consuming. A part in a Marvel movie can be a big commitment for an actor since it can mean many parts in future movies for the cinematic universe.
When people think of Arnold Schwarzenegger, they most often think of his time as the terminator. However, he’s been part of comic book movies before. For DC, he played Mr. Freeze in Batman & Robin. It’s easy to imagine him taking on the role of another classic villain. The serious way he tends to deliver his lines makes him an easy casting choice for that kind of role. Playing a rougher anti-hero, like Ghost Rider, would also be a fun choice for Arnold Schwarzenegger, who has spent a fair amount of time on a motorcycle in his movies.
Kevin Feige is the head of Marvel. While the movies sometimes bring in actors who weren’t well known before they joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he’s also managed to sign on actors with long careers like Angelina Jolie for Eternals. At the same time, he’s brought on famous young pop stars like Harry Styles, who recently appeared in the post-credits scene for Eternals. Bringing in a star like Arnold Schwarzenegger, who has had a long career in Hollywood, could help bring an older audience to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the same way Harry Styles is bringing in younger fans. Demographic polls have shown that Marvel’s main audience tends to run younger, with most of their audience under the age of 54 years old. Many of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s greatest hits at the box office happened in the late 1980s and 1990s, which may make him a bigger draw for older audiences.
As such an iconic actor, with a voice that audiences recognize so well, it’s going to be a challenge to cast Arnold Schwarzenegger in the right part. Audiences have a lot of expectations at this point when they see the actor. How Marvel manages to use that to their advantage will be an interesting thing to see them play with if he decides to sign on.
