Every Shot Of Brie Larson In The Marvels Trailer Is The Same Shot
Brie Larson has the same puzzled expression for most of The Marvels trailer.
Brie Larson will return as Captain Marvel in the upcoming 33rd MCU movie The Marvels and, for whatever reason, it appears that she has only one expression to bring with her. The recently released trailer for The Marvels has remarkably little of Brie Larson in it (especially considering that it was originally brought into production as Captain Marvel 2).
Still, even as little as she’s in it, nearly every shot of Brie Larson (who is supposed to be the star of the film?) has her using the same exact puzzled, side-eye look on her face. It is remarkably consistent, to say the least.
The first appearance of Brie Larson in the trailer appears to be a reprise of the mid-credits scene of the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel, in which Carol Danvers found herself unexpectedly crash-landing in a teen girl’s bedroom that happened to be decorated almost exclusively with pictures of herself.
To be fair, that would be a puzzling moment for anyone, even someone used to traversing the cosmos with the single most bloodthirsty creature in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The expression happens again, in her next trailer appearance. This time its after Iman Vellani attempts to show off her bracelet-related powers to Samuel L. Jackson and Teyonah Parris, only to find herself having switched places with Brie Larson again.
They gave us the side-eye expression from two angles this time.
Here’s the one clear shot in The Marvels trailer where she doesn’t seem to be making that face…
But the trailer cuts away from her extremely fast, and looking at it now, it looks that even here, she’s on the verge of making her confused side-eye face yet again.
Even though The Marvels trailer is less than two minutes and Brie Larson is barely in it, it manages to use most of its minimal footage of Brie Larson to show her looking confused. Here she is again, looking confused in a dance number…
She appears to peering through the tentacles of some kind of decorative plush jellyfish. For whatever reason, The Marvels trailer is surprisingly heavy on the tentacles.
And finally, here is a shot of Brie Larson as Captain Marvel looking confused in her traditional uniform of a white crop top.
This last image is from near the end of the trailer when both Larson and Teyonah Parris deny that they are forming a superhero group, though Iman Vellani (not to mention the title of the movie they’re in) seems to say otherwise.
Granted, all these images come from a fairly brief look at The Marvels, so we’ll have to see what Brie Larson’s actual role in the film is. Given that she’s an Academy Award winner, hopefully, Marvel Studios has coaxed a bit more than that one expression out of her.
The Marvels will feature Brie Larson as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, and Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel, but it seems it will only feature one expression on the star of the upcoming Fast X.
