She's the spitting image!

Pictures of Evan Rachel Wood in costume as a young Madonna were recently released, and they look spot on. The actress will be playing the character in the new Weird Al biopic that will be released on The Roku Channel. Check out the picture below:
The biopic will follow Weird Al Yankovic’s rise to fame. The official logline also mentions “torrid celebrity affairs” and a “depraved lifestyle,” so we’re guessing the biopic might be a little tongue-in-cheek. The film is being written by Weird Al himself along with Eric Appel from Funny or Die. In addition to casting Evan Rachel Wood as Madonna, the cast list is rounded out by Rainn Wilson as Dr. Demento, Julianne Nicholson as Weird Al’s mother, and Toby Huss as Weird Al’s father. The title role will be portrayed by none other than Daniel Radcliffe. Weird Al is known for his parody songs. Takes on major hits that include “Eat It” a food-focused spin on Michael Jackson’s “Beat It,” “Like a Surgeon,” a medical-inspired spin on Madonna’s “Like Virgin,” and “Amish Paradise,” a flip of Coolio’s “Gangsta’s Paradise.”
WEIRD: The Al Yankovic Story and Evan Rachel Wood will be beating the Material Girl and another young actress to the punch when it comes to putting a young Madonna on-screen. Madonna herself is co-writing and directing a biopic of her own life story. There are currently a number of notable actresses up for the role. The shortlist includes names like Julia Garner, Florence Pugh, Alexa Demie, and Emma Laird. The casting is apparently ongoing and this shortlist could definitely become longer if they find the right people auditioning for the role.
In the meantime, we’re sure Evan Rachel Wood is going to kill it in the role, even if the Weird Al movie seems poised to be a little more on the wacky side when compared to the Madonna biopic. The Westworld actress has some additional projects in the chamber for the near future. First up is her upcoming HBO documentary Phoenix Rising. The two-part documentary follows Wood as she advocates for the Phoenix Act, a law that extends the statute of limitations for abuse survivors to come forth and confront their abusers. The documentary also touches on Evan Rachel Wood’s own relationship with her abuser, Marilyn Manson, as she finds and connects with other survivors of his abuse. You’ll also be able to see her in the next season of Westworld, which is set to come out sometime in summer 2022. No spoilers for the Season 3 finale, but it will be interesting to find out how her character will return to the show. She also has an upcoming short called Queen, which she pulls triple duty in — starring, directing, and writing it.
As to the release date of the upcoming Weird Al biopic, there’s no news yet. Evan Rachel Wood’s first look at Madonna is only the second image we have to go by, with the first being a look at Daniel Radcliffe in the titular role. When it does release, you can catch it on the Roku Channel, which doesn’t require you to have a Roku device.
