Euphoria Star Almost Fired For Being Drug Addict
Dominic Fike, who plays Elliott on the hit HBO series Euphoria, says he was almost fired from the show due to his drug use. The 27-year-old made the revelation during an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe. “I was a drug addict, and coming onto a show, you know, (that’s) mainly about drugs is very difficult,” he said.
“Oh, my God, yeah, dude. I was so f**ed up doing a lot of that show. It was really bad.”

Fortunately, series creator Sam Levinson hired a sober coach to help him. But according to Fike, it didn’t work because he was high. When asked if he was high on the set of Euphoria, the actor admitted that he was. “Oh, my God, yeah, dude. I was so f**ed up doing a lot of that show. It was really bad,” the actor said via Deadline.
Fike went on to explain how his drug use almost cost him his role on Euphoria. “I was reprimanded for it. I almost, you know, got kicked off the show. They were like, ‘Bro, you cannot be doing this.’” Interestingly, Fike claims that producers used some of the scenes where he was clearly under the influence of drugs.
“Yeah, that’s entertainment dude,” Fike continued. “They give you a bunch of money, and they’re like, ‘Yeah, figure it out, bud. Sink or swim.’” The aspiring musician also talked about how he was trying to record an album while battling addiction to various substances. “That much pressure, the drugs, my family being insane, and me being insane, was impossible,” he added.

Fike went into rehab in 2020 and is now completely sober. He is set to appear on season three of Euphoria. “I have a better dynamic with everybody,” he added before alluding to his break up with costar and ex-Hunter Schafer. “I mean, well, I don’t know. Almost everybody, I think it’ll be fine. We’re all adults, kind of. I’m trying.”

Euphoria debuted on HBO in June 2019. Created by Sam Levinson, the show is based on the Israeli miniseries of the same name by Ron Leshem and Daphna Levin. The story focuses on a group of high school students as they navigate love, friendships, and adolescence in a world filled with challenges, sex, drugs, and social media.
The main character in Euphoria is teenager Rue Bennett, a recovering drug addict struggling with anxiety and depression. As the story unfolds, viewers are introduced to a diverse range of supporting characters dealing with their own struggles. The series has been praised for its acting, exceptional storytelling, and willingness to tackle sensitive subjects.
Since its debut, Euphoria has earned Emmy nominations for its acting, cinematography, and music, solidifying its reputation as a critically acclaimed series. But the show also faced criticism for its explicit sexual content and nudity, which have made some folks uncomfortable. Despite its detractors, the show has managed to earn a strong fan following.
Euphoria, starring Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Hunter Schafer, Jacob Elordi, Angus Cloud, Maude Apatow, Alexa Demie, Barbie Ferreira, and Dominic Fike, will return for a third season. A release date is yet to be announced.
