HBO has entered a new phase in its long development of compelling and thought-provoking television shows that have focused on bringing exciting stories to life. The network has been creating characters to root for and scold for several decades from hit series like The Sopranos and Game of Thrones. Once praised for comedies like The Larry Sanders Show, HBO has primarily become the platform for audiences to enjoy dramatic tales of crime, fantasy, queer narratives, and even high school drug antics. One of those fabled shows is Euphoria, which has showcased two seasons’ worth of gritty drama mixed with real-life experiences in the drug world. As Euphoria enters its upcoming season 3, it appears that the show may be one cast member down.

According to the The Hollywood Reporter, actor Barbie Ferreira is leaving Euphoria and will no longer be featured in season 3 of the series. The 25-year-old Ferreira plays Kat Hernandez on the show, a high school student who is often bullied while on campus but plays dress up as a cam girl in her spare time. For a show often grounded in realism and demonstrating how vicious high school can be for some teenagers, Ferreira portrayed a mixed bag of a character that left some fans wondering where her storylines could go in potential future seasons. Now, it seems that the actor will no longer be part of the series, and it might be because of some behavior behind the scenes.

Barbie Ferreira in Euphoria

The Daily Beast reported earlier this year that Barbie Ferreira and Euphoria creator Sam Levinson were embroiled over a disagreement each shared while filming, and it looked uncertain whether or not she would come back for season 3. The two apparently became angry with one another about the direction Ferreira’s character of Kat would be going in the series, and the drama on the set got to be too much for Ferreira. She appeared to storm off the set in the moment, so it should be no surprise that her character will be written off in the upcoming season. Ferreira posted a note to Instagram informing her fans of her decision to leave the acclaimed series.

As Euphoria enters season 3 on a low note with Barbie Ferreira leaving the show, it is still one of the most praised projects to hit HBO in a number of years. Euphoria has become a success mainly because of actor Zendaya, who plays the central role of Rue Bennett. It has also been a stepping stone for supporting actors of the diverse series as well, including Sydney Sweeney, Eric Dane, Jacob Elordi, Maude Apatow, and Austin Abrams. Zendaya became the youngest person in history to win the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 2020, which has led to her being nominated a second time this year. Vogue reports that Sweeney is a double nominee at this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards, one for her work on Euphoria and another nomination for The White Lotus.
