Euphoria Season 3 Getting Canceled Just Helped Spider-Man 4?
According to a recent write-up in Tech Radar, Marvel’s Spider-Man 4 could be coming to market much sooner than previously anticipated, thanks to scheduling changes for the HBO original series Euphoria. Zendaya was recently informed by the studio that Euphoria‘s third season was on an indefinite hiatus, prompting her to fill her schedule with other opportunities.
Not Officially Canceled?
While HBO execs have expressed that the dramatic series is not officially cancelled, this schedule opening offers Marvel writers an opportunity to snatch up Zendaya while they still have the chance.
Zendaya has become one of the most massive and recognizable stars in modern Hollywood, due in large part to her front-and-center inclusions in both Euphoria and the Marvel Spider-Man trilogy opposite Tom Holland.
Dune In The Way Too?
The 27-year-old actress also has a massive role in the Denis Villeneuve Dune films as Chani, the love interest of Timothee Chalamet’s Paul Atreides.
While audiences were left unsure if Zendaya would return for Spider-Man 4, insiders seem to have confirmed that her newfound schedule offers a brief but significant opportunity to kick the production into gear.
Zendaya At End Of Spider-Man: No Way Home
When we last saw Zendaya’s MJ in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, she had lost all her memories of Peter Parker, along with the rest of the known universe.
Despite Peter’s desire to rekindle his friendship with MJ and his other best friend Ned, he ultimately concludes that it would be best to let them continue their lives unencumbered by the stress and trauma of being chained to such a dangerous public figure.
If the state of the other MCU films of the past several years is anything to go by, Spider-Man 4 may be retconning this mind-wipe arc via another multiverse story.
Spider-Man 4 In Pre-Production?
Still, it’s far too early to know what Spider-Man 4 has in store for us, as the film has yet to receive a proper title.
Industry insider Jeff Sneider has speculated that the film is currently in pre-production, with the studio planning on locking in a schedule for a September or October shoot. Additionally, Sneider claims Fast & Furious filmmaker Justin Lin is in talks to direct the upcoming installment, though nothing has been confirmed so far.
What Is Happening With Euphoria?
The most recent episode of Euphoria aired over two years ago, and the show has since faced a great deal of issues getting back on track for season 3.
Rumors of the series’ creator Sam Levinson engaging in abusive behavior on set ran rampant across the internet last year, as many of the leading actors moved on to other projects.
If Zendaya does officially agree to a Fall 2024 shoot for Spider-Man 4, this means the third season of the HBO original series won’t even begin production until 2025 at the earliest.
Getting Canceled?
The WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes of 2023 obviously threw a wrench into just about every ongoing production imaginable as well, leaving many fans to assume that Euphoria will stall out and ultimately be canceled before getting a third season.
This would be a truly tragic state of events, as the second season ended on an extremely dour note. Still, if sacrificing the future of Euphoria means an expedited Spider-Man 4 release, fans will likely relish the trade.
