Emma Stone Stuns As DC’s New Batwoman, See The Photo
Emma Stone has been placed into the role of Batwoman via some new fan art.
With the DC Extended Universe in disarray, fans have taken it upon themselves to cast their favorite stars as popular comic book characters. In a post on Instagram, a digital artist named Aaron shared a very cool piece of concept art that transforms Emma Stone into Kate Kane’s Batwoman. The actress is seen with auburn-colored hair and wearing the famous bat suit.
The image showcases how incredible Emma Stone would look if given the chance to portray Batwoman on screen. The 34-year-old matches the superhero’s iconic looks from the comics perfectly. And, given her incredible acting skills, she would deliver a masterful performance as Kate Kane.
Emmla Stone also has experience in the realm of superheroes, having starred in The Amazing Spider-Man and its sequel.
Long before Emma Stone was fan-cast, the original Silver Age Batwoman was created by Edmond Hamilton and Sheldon Moldoff in 1965. Initially developed as Kathy Kane, she was the first of several characters in the Batman Family. Since the family formula was successful for the Superman franchise, Editor Jack Schiff wanted to do the same for the Caped Crusader.
Kathy Kane was created first, to offset the idea that Batman and Dick Grayson were homosexual. The controversial storyline was first hinted at in 1954’s Seduction of the Innocent. The modern version of the character was later rewritten as Kate Kane (portrayed by Emma Stone in the image).
Bruce Wayne’s cousin who would eventually become the highest-profile gay superhero published by DC Comics.
Kate Kane made her live-action debut in 2018 during the Arrowverse crossover event, “Elseworlds”. The character was played by Ruby Rose who received her own spinoff series. However, she exited the role after one season, making way for Javicia Leslie as Ryan Wilder.
Now, the new fan art makes a compelling case for Emma Stone to play Batwoman. Especially since DC Studios is currently in a state of flux.
Interestingly, it took a while for Batwoman to make it to the screen. Despite dating back almost 70 years, the character is overshadowed by Barbara Gordon’s Batgirl. That character was given her own movie by Warner Bros.
But the studio eventually decided to scrap it just before post-production. With James Gunn creating a 10-year plan for DC Studios, Emma Stone suiting up as Batwoman is very possible.
Meanwhile, Emma Stone has a few projects in the works away from her Batwoman fan casting. The Spider-Man alum will star in Poor Things directed by Yorgos Lanthimos from a screenplay by Tony McNamara. Based on the 1992 Alasdair Gray novel of the same name, the story follows Bell Baxter, a woman who attempts to drown herself to escape her abusive husband.
The actress will also appear in And, an upcoming anthology film directed by Yorgos Lanthimos from a script he co-wrote with Efthymis Filippou. While plot details are scarce, the film also stars Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, Hong Chau, and Margaret Qualley. With so many projects in the works, it’s difficult to predict if Emma Stone would have the time to play Batwoman.
