Longtime American Horror Story favorite Emma Roberts will soon be making her Marvel debut in the star-studded film Madame Web. With the storyline seeming to make a change from the original comic books, many have been wondering how the movie will play out and who some of the characters, including Roberts’, will be. The actress recently appeared on the Shut Up Evan podcast where she revealed that her character is “not a superhero” although “some people may think she’s a superhero but not… like I don’t have supernatural powers.”

Not divulging too much information, as any good Marvel actor is trained to do, Emma Roberts teased that audiences can expect Madame Web to be “really different” compared to what they’ve seen from the MCU in the past. One of those obvious differences is that the feature will be very “female-driven,” something majorly lacking in the universe’s previous films with Roberts adding that “it’s super grounded” as well. She went on to essentially tell future viewers to expect the unexpected, as the movie will go places Marvel has never gone before.

Although she held her cards close to her chest when it came to who her character would be, Emma Roberts did give some clues to the size of her part in Madame Web by commenting that she was only on set for a week. But that doesn’t mean that she didn’t get to check out the “fantastic” script in its entirety along with storyboards, adding that she was “really, really excited for everybody to see it” and that the anticipation to find out how it all developed with her own eyes was building as well. We also know that the actress will be making her way to the set at the tail end of production to film some extra scenes.

A spin-off from the Spider-Man franchise, Madame Web will center around the titular clairvoyant who’s able to use her powers to gaze inside the spider universe. While the original comics saw the character as an elderly blind woman who’s hooked up to a life-support chair, the film will seemingly diverge from this storyline at least by a small bit with Dakota Johnson stepping into the leading role. Along with Emma Roberts and Dakota Johnson, Madame Web will also star Adam Scott, Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced, Mike Epps, Zosia Mamet, Celeste O’Connor, and Tahar Rahim.

Emma Roberts has a full docket of projects outside the world of Madame Web with the actress slated to appear this year in the rom-com Maybe I Do opposite an A-list cast that includes Diane Keaton, Richard Gere, Luke Bracey, Susan Sarandon, and William H. Macy. She’ll also take things to the animated world in Nathan Smith’s Saurus City, joining a vocal cast that also includes Dennis Quaid and Ron Perlman. Rounding things out, she’s in the midst of production on the Prime Video dramedy Space Cadet

Initially set to land in theaters this July, Sony and Marvel’s Madame Web met the fate of many other MCU flicks, and was first pushed back until October and then again to February 16, 2024, where it currently sits. Stay tuned to hear more updates about Emma Roberts, Dakota Johnson, and the rest of the cast of Madame Web in the approaching weeks and months.
