Emily Blunt Quits Acting For One Big Reason
Emily Blunt is taking a year away from acting to spend time with her family
After 20 years in Hollywood and with 52 projects under her belt, Emily Blunt has had enough and is quitting acting. At least for a year, anyway. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Blunt is taking a year-long sabbatical away from the big screen in order to spend more time with her children while they are young.
Emily Blunt shares two daughters with her husband, John Krasinski, and according to Blunt, their oldest is nine years old. While speaking on Bruce Bozzi’s iHeart podcast, Blunt said she “could feel it in her bones” that it was time to take a break from work to spend more time with her children while they were still in the single-digit ages.
Continuing her reasoning for taking a break from work, Emily Blunt described how important it is to her to be there for her daughters’ daily routines. She emphasized the importance of being present to get her children out of bed in the morning, taking them to school, picking them up, and tucking them in bed at night, and how if she were away on set, she would miss these moments in their lives at a crucial stage of their development.

Emily Blunt’s decision to take a break comes days before the release of her latest film, Oppenheimer, which makes up half of this summer’s most anticipated double-feature spectacular, Barbie-Oppenheimer.
And, according to Variety, has already sold more than 20,000 double-feature tickets at AMC theaters. Oppenheimer, directed by Christopher Nolan, follows scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy) and his part in developing the world’s deadliest bomb. Emily Blunt plays Oppenheimer’s wife, Kitty Oppenheimer.
Oppenheimer is slated for a release later this month, but that’s not the only project Emily Blunt has in the pipeline. In fact, the English actress has six projects still in the works, though only two of them are still in development. Pain Hustlers, a crime drama also starring Chris Evans, is also completed and will release on October 27 this year.
Emily Blunt will also appear in The Fall Guy, where she will star next to Ryan Gosling in the action drama. Production has already wrapped on this feature, though the plot is still under wraps.
Imaginary Friends is another project that has finished development and has hit the post-production stage. This film follows a young girl who remarkably develops the ability to see the imaginary friends left behind by those who have grown up. Emily Blunt stars in this feature, written and directed by her husband, John Krasinski, which also boasts an all-star cast, including Pheobe Waller-Bridge, Ryan Reynolds, Matt Damon, Awkwafina, Steve Carrell, and Maya Rudolph.
Additionally, Emily Blunt will appear in Jungle Cruise 2 and Live Die Repeat And Repeat. So, despite taking a year away from the movie set, Blunt is still slated to appear on the silver screen in multiple projects over the next several years.
During the interview, Emily Blunt shared glimpses of her personal life, including cherished moments with Krasinski, highlighting their shared morning routine.
They recently adopted a puppy, and while Blunt initially hesitated, the joy it brought to their children and the opportunity for uninterrupted conversation in the mornings made it worthwhile. The couple appreciates spending quiet mornings together, catching up before their children wake up.
