Emily Blunt Is Giving Up Acting, Here’s Why
A Quiet Place franchise star Emily Blunt has announced that she’s taking a break from acting to spend more time at home with her famous hubby John Krasinski (The Office) and their two children. According to CNN, the Mary Poppins Returns actress made the revelation on the Table for Two podcast earlier this week, telling the show’s host Bruce Bozzi that she wouldn’t be working for the next year.
Emily Blunt says she’s stepping away from acting to spend more quality time with her family.
With her eldest daughter, Hazel, at nine years old, Blunt says she wants to have as much time as she can to enjoy these defining years with her kids.
The conversation started when the host asked how Emily Blunt was able to juggle her professional and uber-successful acting career with her home life. The Devil Wears Prada star admitted that she “never felt like I’m doing it right,” which ultimately led to her decision to take some time off from the sets in Hollywood.
Admitting that this last year has been one of her busiest, Blunt said that there were “cornerstones” of both children’s lives that she doesn’t want to miss out on.
It’s been a very busy few years for Emily Blunt who will next appear alongside a star-studded cast in Christopher Nolan’s historical drama Oppenheimer.
Included in those memorable and tender moments are waking her daughters up, taking them to school, and getting them settled for the night, all things that Emily Blunt feels like she needs to be present for “for a good stretch.”
Speaking about the pressure that she’s faced as a mother, Blunt said that there was a certain amount of “guilt” that she felt in being busy and having a career that took her outside the home and away from her family.
But, at the end of the day, she hopes that she’s setting a good example for her daughters as she hopes that they’ll “grow up and find something they adore doing” just as she did.
It’s been a very busy few years for Emily Blunt who will next appear alongside a star-studded cast in Christopher Nolan’s historical drama Oppenheimer. In it, she’ll step into the role of the titular physicist’s wife, Kitty Oppenheimer, in an undoubtedly complex performance that took up a lot of her time during production and was certainly one of the many reasons for which she’s deciding to take a break from acting at this time.
Emily Blunt’s Movies After Oppenheimer
And, that’s just the tip of the iceberg for Emily Blunt as she also recently wrapped filming on several other projects. Following the premiere of Oppenheimer, she’ll lead a cast that includes Chris Evans, Catherine O’Hara, and Andy Garcia in David Yates’ drama, Pain Hustlers as well as opposite Ryan Gosling in David Leitch’s action thriller, The Fall Guy.
Finally, Emily Blunt will join her husband in his fantasy comedy IF, which Krasinski wrote, directed and co-produced. Gathering all the famous friends that he could, John Krasinski not only nabbed his wife for a role in the project but also enlisted in the likes of Ryan Reynolds, Fiona Shaw, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Matt Damon, Maya Rudolph, Steve Carell, Vince Vaughn, and more.
With all of these upcoming titles in post-production, Emily Blunt is ready to stay at home to reconnect with her kids and take a well-deserved break from the tight schedules and immersive roles that she’s stepped into over the last two decades.
