Emilia Clarke Has Officially Joined The Marvel Cinematic Universe

Emilia Clarke has been rumored for either a Marvel or DC project for a while now. After her prominent role in Game of Thrones, fans have been clamoring for her to join one of the two major superhero franchises. There were rumors she could replace Amber Heard as Mera in Aquaman 2 and that she was the prime choice for another important DC superheroine, but now it looks like she has made a decision and she has chosen to work for Marvel.
Variety reports that Emilia Clarke is in final negotiations to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming Disney+ series Secret Invasion. This comes shortly after the news that Oscar winner Olivia Colman is also joining the series. Clearly, Marvel Studios is going all the way with this series and will plan to make Secret Invasion a true event. It’s possible that, in lieu of a new Avengers movie on the horizon, Secret Invasion will turn out to be the next universe-changing storyline for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If that is the case, it is possible that casting such big actresses could be a one-off deal that will only affect this one miniseries.
Of course, whatever role Emilia Clarke has been cast to play is being kept under wraps. There is no word whether or not she will be playing a hero or a villain. Although Variety broke the story, representatives for Marvel Studios and Emilia Clarke have not commented on the report. Marvel declined to comment while Clarke’s representatives simply have not responded to the news. We’re assuming that an official response is being coordinated, especially if Marvel Studios wants to try and keep exactly who Clarke is playing a secret. Considering her notoriety as an actress, there is a very good chance that whoever she is playing is going to be a major player in the story and possibly the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
We have to imagine that Emilia Clarke being cast in Secret Invasion has dashed any immediate chances of her also playing a character in the DC cinematic universe. She has been heavily rumored for the role of Zatanna but we can’t imagine that Warner Bros. would want to cast her after being such a notable presence in a Marvel Cinematic Universe property. But, it isn’t impossible. A lot of it could depend on how long Marvel Studios decides to keep her around after her role in Secret Invasion. If her character ends up getting killed off in Secret Invasion, perhaps she has a better chance at playing a DC character for a longer stretch of projects.
No matter what happens, Emilia Clarke joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Secret Invasion is a major reason to keep an eye on that upcoming series. There is no question that it will be a game-changing story for the Marvel world and it is going to be exciting to see what kind of role Emilia Clarke will be playing. The Marvel universe continues to hire excellent actors and this is no exception.
