Emilia Clarke has yet to nab a role that is as prominent as Daenerys Targaryen in the hit HBO series Game of Thrones. However, with news that Amber Heard is receiving a significant amount of backlash, speculation is starting to swirl about who could potentially step into the role of Mera if Heard ends up vacating it. And Clarke’s name continues to be one of the fan favorites. And now, we can actually see what that might look like.
Prolific illustrator BossLogic posted his version of how Emilia Clarke would appear if she became Mera, the Queen of Atlantis. Get a look at the artwork right here:
It is hard to deny that Emilia Clarke cuts quite the imposing and alluring figure as Mera. The illustration definitely makes an argument that Clarke would aesthetically nail the role if she was given the opportunity. And she has certainly showcased her acting ability over the years. It is very likely she would deliver a memorable performance as the Queen of Atlantis.
And Emilia Clarke has more than proven that she can handle the stresses of tentpole filmmaking. She has headlined entries in both the Star Wars and Terminator franchises. It is only a matter of time before she finds her way to another major intellectual property in the form of a studio blockbuster film. Could that end up being Aquaman 2? Maybe!
It would not be the biggest surprise if an actress like Emilia Clarke ended up stepping in for Amber Heard. The bad press surrounding Heard seems to only get worse with every passing day. In fact, there is a petition to remove her from Aquaman 2 that is quickly climbing to over a million signatures. If Warner Bros. decides to announce that Heard is being removed from the project, it would not be the biggest surprise. After their firing of Johnny Deep from Fantastic Beasts 3, anything is possible.
And if that does happen, Emilia Clarke or another equally qualified actress could take over. It would be a fairly severe case of whiplash for Warner Bros. to recast both Heard and Depp. We only just learned who is going to be taking over as Gellert Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts 3. Could an announcement about Amber Heard in Aquaman 2 be just around the corner?
As for Emilia Clarke’s immediate future, her next film is the animated film The Amazing Maurice, based on the book by prolific author Terry Pratchett. Beyond that, she does not have any other upcoming projects listed. Granted, film and television production is going through a tumultuous time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Clarke could be on hiatus for a while until productions get back to normal.
We will have to wait and see what the future holds for Emilia Clarke and if she could be involved in Aquaman 2. If not, at least we have this cool piece of art from BossLogic to help us imagine what she would look like as the Queen of Atlantis.
