Saturday Night Live has seen its share of controversial hosts and musical acts over the years. It’s not a new thing to have non-Hollywood talents take to the stage on the popular sketch comedy show. Most times these untrained personalities get out there, it’s a bit of a mess, but it happens nonetheless. The most recent addition to this list will be Elon Musk who will host the show on May 8th. But not all cast members are happy with the decision. In fact, some are downright decrying it through their social networks.

Elon Musk kicked things off with the announcement, in conjunction with Saturday Night Live that he would be hosting the show. He had this to say by means of letting the general public in on the casting news.

Saturday Night Live did something similar over on Instagram, posting the Post-it note lineup for the May 8th show. It looks like Miley Cyrus will be on as the musical guest for the episode that Elon Musk hosts.

Though Elon Musk is about as famous a *personality* as you’ll find outside of the Hollywood sphere, not all cast members and writers for Saturday Night Live appeared happy with the decision. They took to their own social media outlets to decry the choice in a variety of not-so-subtle ways. Bowen Yang, a featured cast member, and writer had this to say in response to the Musk announcement on Twitter.

Not exactly a ringing endorsement of the decision to have Elon Musk on the program. While the latter’s message was a bit cheesy, it’s obviously in the vein of promotional material rather than being serious. But Yang’s response is clearly conveying an air of discomfort or consternation with the choice to have Musk take part. If say, Justin Timberlake had tweeted the exact same thing, it’s hard to imagine a similar response.

Then there was popular Saturday Night Live cast member Aidy Bryant who didn’t necessarily respond outright to the Elon Musk announcement with an opinion but rather a reposting of a Bernie Sanders message. This one had to do with wealth inequality in the United States and the discrepancy between those at the top (Musk) and those at the bottom. While she doesn’t use Musk by name, the timing was conspicuous enough considering the former is currently the second-richest person in the world. Worth noting here that Aidy Bryant’s net worth is estimated in the millions of dollars. This is what she shared on Instagram.

And finally, writer and featured player Andrew Dismukes continued the lack of subtlety with the posting on Instagram of “ONLY CEO I WANT TO DO A SKETCH WITH IS CHER-E OTERI”. So it would appear a certain portion of the cast is none too pleased to have Elon Musk on the show in a couple of weeks. I’m sure it won’t make it awkward in the writer’s room or anything as they are prepping for the broadcast.

Elon Musk has been in and around the headlines for the better part of his industrialist career and that isn’t going to stop anytime soon. Between launching rockets on a quest for Mars, running a massive electric car company, buying up cryptocurrency by the millions, and teaching monkeys to play video games with their brains, the guy is always up to something. It will be interesting to see how this hosting gig on Saturday Night Live plays out, especially considering it appears some don’t want him there, to begin with.
