Elon Musk can throw around a ton of money, and it wouldn't be the least bit surprising. After vowing to purchase Twitter, he now has his eyes set on a football team.

Elon Musk seems to be quite busy with acquisitions lately. The man is currently dealing with the purchase of Twitter, or rather, he might still be purchasing the social media platform. Certain issues have presented themselves with the Twitter purchase, mainly Musk believing that the platform is full of BOT accounts. This has led to the man all but pulling out of the deal. However, pulling out of that deal has led to a lawsuit taking place, which will begin on October 17th. Now, it appears as if the richest man in the world is thinking of getting into the sports club game. He recently tweeted about purchasing one of the biggest football teams in the world: Manchester United. You can see the tweet below:
Elon Musk is not one for taking his own tweets seriously, but sometimes the public isn’t quite sure if he is joking or not. The above tweet caused an uproar of companies believing it to be true. The Manchester United fan page also responded in kind with a joke of its own, though fans are likely wishing that Musk would take over.
The football club is currently going through some loss woes, and it has caused many fans to blame the owner of the team for that fact. Fans have long criticized the Blazer family that currently owns the team, however, there were also mixed reviews about the possibility of Musk buying the team. That is precisely what happened when the world learned the man would be purchasing Twitter. However, his bid to buy the social media platform was far more serious than his tweet about buying Manchester United.
Buying Manchester United would also cost a lot less than buying Twitter. Elon Musk initially agreed to purchase the social medial platform for a staggering $44 billion. In comparison to his overall wealth, $44 billion would not hurt his wallet all too much. However, purchasing Manchester United from the Glazer family might cost around $2.4 billion.
Elon Musk would likely recoup that price in a year’s time. Musk did claim that it was a joke and buying Manchester United is part of a running joke on Twitter. We are not sure how running jokes work on Twitter, but no one is going around and claiming they are going to buy sports teams and social media platforms. That is likely exclusive to Musk, who happens to be the richest man in the world. The world also begins to equally panic and be happy when Musk throws out the idea of purchasing anything. No one saw him buying Twitter, but here we are.
Elon Musk might still be purchasing Twitter, as he has recently been offloading shares of Tesla. This is rumored to be because should he lose the court case in October, he fully plans to buy the social media platform anyway. He might save himself a headache by just following through with the purchase before he is taken to court over it, but what do we know? Depending on what happens with this lawsuit, maybe he does set his sights on Manchester United as his next big purchase.
