See Elliot Page Replacing Henry Cavill As The New Superman
Elliot Page is Superman in this fan art.
With James Gunn officially ousting Henry Cavill from his longtime role as Superman, rumors have been flying about who might replace him. One Twitter artist, OTMShank, has imagined what it would look like if transgender actor Elliot Page took up the role. In a viral Tweet, the artist produced two concept images of Page as Superman.

Elliot Page will almost certainly not replace Henry Cavill as Superman. However, they will continue to appear in The Umbrella Academy as superhero Viktor Hargreeves (formerly Vanya Hargreeves). Page might also be in talks with Marvel to portray an as-yet-unannounced superhero role.
While the Tweet itself claims that Warner Brothers executives are actually considering casting Elliot Page as a replacement for Henry Cavill, there are no real active rumors to that effect. In fact, a few Tweets down, OTMShank admits that he made the claim up just because he thought it would be funny if the rumor went viral, forcing the studio to deny it. Of course, this admission didn’t prevent hundreds of other commenters from believing the claim without doing any research.
This Tweet follows a growing trend among artists these days. Multiple Tweets and Instagram images have spread, either reimagining Henry Cavill playing different roles, or showing a different actor replacing Cavill in his former Superman role. Meanwhile, no official announcement has been made about who will replace the actor, who debuted as Superman in the 2013 film Man of Steel.
Before James Gunn ousted Henry Cavill, it was well-known that a second solo Superman film featuring him was planned. Even after Gunn took over the DC film franchise, there appeared to be confirmations that Cavill would reprise his role. Award-winning screenwriter Steven Knight was in charge of writing up a script, and there were rumors that the film would be a reboot of the Man of Steel’s origins.
With Henry Cavill gone, the Superman franchise will be going in a different direction. Christopher McQuarrie, who has directed two Mission: Impossible films along with Jack Reacher and The Way of the Gun, might be in charge of the upcoming movie. Kingsman director Matthew Vaughn has also been gunning for the role.
Meanwhile, with his role as Superman behind him, Henry Cavill has more roles ahead of him. He will appear in Guy Ritchie’s spy flick The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, along with the spy film Argyle and the romantic comedy The Rosie Project. Cavill is also in talks with Amazon to bring a new Warhammer 40,000 series to their streaming platform. He’s also supposed to appear in the video game Squadron 42, but that would require game developer Roberts Space Industries to release the game, which might not ever happen.
There are many rumored future roles as well. Henry Cavill might appear in a Highlander reboot, the upcoming Avatar sequels, and even an upcoming movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. None of those rumors have any official confirmation, however, so we’ll just have to wait and see what comes of them.
