Since she starred on NBC’s The Office, actor Ellie Kemper has succeeded both in television and film. She parlayed her run on The Office with a supporting role in Bridesmaids alongside veteran comedic talents like Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne, Melissa McCarthy, and Wendi McLendon-Covey. Taking her skills back to the small screen, Kemper starred in the titular role of Tina Fey’s offbeat Netflix comedy, Unbreakable Kimmy SchmidtUnbreakable Kimmy Schmidt ran for four seasons on the subscription streaming platform and spawned an interactive T.V. movie in 2020, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs the Reverend, one of the first of its kind for Netflix. Now, it appears that Ellie Kemper is set to lead a spin-off of a successful cooking show.

According to a report by Deadline, Ellie Kemper will cohost The Great American Baking Show alongside Zach Cherry. The reality competition cooking show will debut on The Roku Channel exclusively and currently has a tentative release date of sometime in 2023. The Great American Baking Show is a spin-off of the very popular The Great British Baking Show, the original version that has swept Britain for the last few years. Although filmed in the United Kingdom, The Great American Baking Show will feature six 60-minute episodes on The Roku Channel and will take viewers into the famous tent to watch as American contestants try to become America’s top baker.

For viewers of The Great British Baking Show, many U.S. households have been able to watch the original series via Netflix. The spin-off will attempt to capture the heart of the original show with the added twist of showcasing Ellie Kemper and Zach Cherry’s talents. Kemper is already well known to American audiences because of her work on NBC and Netflix, but Cherry will most likely try to establish himself as a worthy cohost to Kemper’s unique charm and likability. Cherry is currently starring in Severance on Apple TV+, a role that recently saw the actor get noticed with a nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Streaming Series from the Hollywood Critics Association Television Awards. Severance stars Adam Scott and is nominated for 14 Primetime Emmy Awards this year, which will be handed out next month.

The decision to bring an American version of The Great British Baking Show to the United States might be tricky for Ellie Kemper and Zach Cherry to host, as the original British version is so beloved. The warm and fuzzy feeling that comes with watching The Great British Baking Show will be challenging for the new cohosts to replicate, but Kemper has had some practice doing just that. She was added to The Office mid-series, itself an American version of a well-liked British comedy show. Entering The Office in Season 5 as the new secretary Erin Hannon, Kemper solidified her take on humor and warmth to a series that needed it at the time. According to IMDb, Kemper will next be featured as part of the cast of Happiness for Beginners, which is currently in post-production.
