Elizabeth Olsen Making A Huge Change To Scarlet Witch?
Elizabeth Olsen wants to return to the role of Scarlet Witch in the MCU and make the character with more of a comedic vibe
Scarlet Witch has been a fan favorite since she made her debut in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Her switch from antihero to villain in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, though, has left fans hoping that they will get to see the powerful sorceress again – and Elizabeth Olsen is ready to put the Scarlet Witch gear back on and make it happen. Recently, at SXSW, she said, “We can do anything with her now! I feel like we’ve done so much. Now, we can really have fun.”
Elizabeth Olsen went on to say that, while Scarlet Witch is normally the “emotion” of whatever film or show she is in at the moment, she would love to see the MCU explore her humorous side. And, of course, she wants to “give her some redemption.”
Fans have already gotten to see a bit of Elizabeth Olsen’s comedic chops when she played Scarlet Witch in WandaVision. In this series, the first of Disney+’s now expansive catalog of Marvel shows, Scarlet Witch invented an entire sitcom-based world for herself and Vision to help her deal with the grief she felt after losing him in her real life.
In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch is even more consumed by that grief, which has turned her into a true monster as she ends worlds in search of her once-fictitious sons. Some say that her evil acts in this film make her beyond redemption, but others maintain that her character’s arc will not be finished until she redeems herself somehow and gets closure.
Since a version of Vision is now alive again in Phase Four of the MCU, perhaps Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch can finally gain peace by connecting with this version of him. Maybe they could start that family that they had in WandaVision, or maybe she can finally say goodbye and let them go for good.
That may not be as comedic of a turn as Elizabeth Olsen is hoping for when it comes to Scarlet Witch, but the actress has already done a great job of proving that she can be just as convincing as an intense, emotional being as she can a quirky, 1950s housewife on a black and white sitcom.
Rumor has it that she might be returning to Disney+ as Scarlet Witch in the upcoming WandaVision spin-off Agatha: Coven of Chaos. That will star Kathryn Hahn as Agatha, her neighbor/the evil witch next door. The two made a great comedic pairing in the original show, so this could be a great way for Elizabeth Olsen to get her wish of seeing a sillier side to Scarlet Witch.
So far, no concrete plans have been revealed, but fans and critics agree with Elizabeth Olsen when she says that Scarlet Witch could really do with a redemption arc. Whether that redemption will contain humorous moments or whether it will be all intensely emotional, we trust that the actress will do a great job pulling it off and give fans the resolution to the story that they deserve.
