ELIZABETH DEBICKI’S BEST MOVIES AND TV SHOWS

THE TALE (2018)

Elizabeth Debicki's Best Movies And TV Shows

REVIEW SCORE

This intense drama sits atop Elizabeth Debicki’s Best Movies and TV Shows list. It tells the real-life story of writer/director Jennifer Fox’s childhood sexual abuse and how she came to terms with it much later in life. Laura Dern plays Fox as an adult, who has to deal with an essay she wrote as a 13-year-old, one that her mother finds and presents to her.

This causes Fox to go on a voyage of self-discovery in order to cope with the abuse she received at the hands of an older man (Jason Ritter) and his female lover, Mrs. G, played by Elizabeth Debicki. The film was praised for its handling of the very sensitive subject matter and also for the performances across the board.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL.2 (2017)

Elizabeth Debicki's Best Movies And TV Shows

REVIEW SCORE

Unfortunately, Elizabeth Debicki didn’t have a huge role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, but her appearance is key in getting the sequel rolling. As one of the better films on her Best Movies and TV Shows list, Debicki plays Ayesha, leader of the Sovereign race, one who has hired the Guardians to protect valuable batteries. Rocket decides to steal the batteries, forcing the Guardians on the run and Ayesha to send Sovereigns after them.

When they fail, Ayesha then hires Yondu Udonta to go after the Guardians. Ayesha appears again in the movie’s post-credit scene, setting up future Guardians movies as she is shown creating a new artificial being which she calls Adam, whom we know as Adam Warlock.

With the money blown up along with the men, the widows are forced to come up with the $2 million to pay off their husbands’ debt.

BREATH (2017)

Elizabeth Debicki's Best Movies And TV Shows

REVIEW SCORE

Breath is a quiet little Australian movie that sits high on Elizabeth Debicki’s Best Movies and TV Shows list and is based on the 2008 novel written by Tim Winton. The film stars Simon Baker as Sando (The Mentalist, Land of the Dead), an older surfer who develops a relationship with two teenage boys, challenging them to take on greater, more dangerous risks.

Elizabeth Debicki is on hand as Eva, Sando’s wife, who eventually finds comfort with one of the teenage boys. The movie is about friendship had, friendship lost, and challenging oneself to face their fears. This movie was co-written by Baker, who also produced the movie and made his directorial debut with it.

MACBETH (2015)

REVIEW SCORE

Another film on Elizabeth Debicki’s Best Movies and TV Shows list where she is not afforded a large part but makes the most of it. The William Shakespeare play, Macbeth, is once again brought to life, this time by director Justin Kurzel and stars Michael Fassbender as the title character. Marion Cotillard tears up the screen as Lady Macbeth and tells the story of the Scottish lord who rises to power after receiving a prophecy from a trio of witches.

EVEREST (2015)

Elizabeth Debicki's Best Movies And TV Shows

REVIEW SCORE

One more early film on Elizabeth Debicki’s ledger and again, one she doesn’t enjoy a lot of screen time. Everest, nevertheless, rates high on her Best Movies and TV Shows list as it tells the biographical story that is based on the 1996 Mount Everest disaster where two expedition groups were forced to try to survive on the dangerous mountain.

Jason Clarke stars as Rob Hall, the head guide of one expedition, and Jake Gyllenhaal stars as Scott Fischer, the lead guide of the second expedition. Besides Debicki, who played the base camp physician, they were joined by Robin Wright, Sam Worthington, Keira Knightley, and Emma Watson.

As Elizabeth Debicki’s career began to progress, so did her talent. This opened up opportunities for her to cross over to the television side and add to her best movies and TV shows list. The following are a couple of television projects that made her list.

MaXXXine

In MaXXXine, the third installment of Ti West’s horror trilogy, Elizabeth Debicki plays Elizabeth Bender, a determined and ambitious film director in 1980s Hollywood.

The film centers on Maxine Minx, portrayed by Mia Goth, as she attempts to transition from adult films to mainstream cinema amidst a backdrop of terror from a serial killer.

Critics were generally positive about the movie and with Elizabeth Debicki’s role.
