Dwayne Johnson Refused Black Adam Return?
Dwayne Johnson allegedly refused to return as Black Adam for The Flash.
More details about the shakeup situation at DC have been funneling out in the past few weeks, and one of the biggest happens to be that Dwayne Johnson will no longer be portraying Black Adam in a sequel movie. However, a new rumor has popped up that states that the man refused a return to the character altogether. Johnson has a production company called 7 Bucks Production, which is run by Hiram Garcia, and when Garcia was asked if Johnson could return as Black Adam for The Flash, Garcia, “politely declined.”
Though this is just a rumor at this point, it does bring into question another rumor that stated Dwayne Johnson also refused to show up as Black Adam for the Shazam! Fury of the Gods sequel. Apparently, Johnson believed that his character was more on the same level as Superman, and should not be associated with the lower level DC superheroes like Shazam. Clearly, things have not worked out that way, as Johnson is on the outs with the new DC Universe plan that is being set up by James Gunn and Peter Safran.
To be fair, there are likely a lot of actors that might not want to be associated with The Flash, simply because of the many issues that have stemmed from Ezra Miller’s behavior. Their many arrests nearly led to the movie being completely canceled, though DC is still moving forward with the release of the feature. Dwayne Johnson likely did not want to add Black Adam to the movie for those reasons.
However, with the previous rumor that Dwayne Johnson thought Shazam 2 was a waste of his time, it would make sense why he would also deny wanting to have Black Adam in any other movie that did not involve Superman or the bigger DC characters. There seems to be more drama surrounding this reset of DC than anyone had bargained for. Hopefully, the drama can be alleviated once Gunn and Safran reveal their first slate of releases next month.
Dwayne Johnson refusing a Black Adam cameo might also have been because he knew that the movie was not going to do as well as he had hoped. Despite the man leaking some alleged falsified box office numbers, the reality is that Black Adam was far too expensive, and did not make as much money as Warner Bros. had hoped for. This has also likely led to the sequel movie not moving forward.
We do understand that Dwayne Johnson is one of the biggest movie stars in the world, so it is a bit understandable that he would only want Black Adam to be a central figure in the DC Universe plans. Still, he did take a gamble on a character that not many casual fans know. Despite everything, Black Adam still had a decent box office showing, though it likely lost money.
For now, the DC shakeup is going to continue, and this whole situation could serve as a humbling experience for Dwayne Johnson and his Black Adam hopes. The media can sometimes spin stories to make certain people look a certain way, but we hope that Johnson was not placing himself on a pedestal that high.
