Fans of the WWE, especially fans of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, will have something to look forward to this coming November. According to ComicBook, the superstar will make an appearance during this year’s Survival Series, which also marks the series’ 25th year anniversary.
There has been talk of Dwayne Johnson returning to the series since June. And what could even be more exciting for fans than just seeing Dwayne Johnson pop-up for a cameo appearance, is to actually see “The People’s Champ” hop in the ring once more. Essentially Sports reported yesterday that there have been rumors that Dwayne Johnson, because of the upcoming significant anniversary for the Survival Series, might just pay homage to his wrestling roots one more time. That being said, this information is still very much just conjecture.
One popular opinion, however, as revealed by Forbes, is that we could see Dwayne Johnson pair up with his cousin Roman Reigns in a tag team battle. Forbes speculated that this matchup could be, in part, to minimize the possibility of “The Rock” incurring any injuries because of his full schedule and high demand as an actor. Other reports have suggested that the pair would actually be wrestling against one another, but the latter is a less likely possibility.
If Dwayne Johnson does indeed take his place in the ring, once again, it will mark the first time that the wrestler-to-actor transplant will have done so since 2019. People reported back then that Dwayne Johnson had tweeted, “There’s no place like home,” just before he was set to appear on SmackDown for that show’s 20th Anniversary.
It is also still unclear as to where the event will take place. ComicBook suggested on their website that it could likely be hosted at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY but there have been no official reports that confirm or deny this.
Even though Dwayne Johnson has not been busy in the world of wrestling since he bowed out in 2004, by contrast, he has had his plate full as an actor. Just next week Disney’s Jungle Cruise will release, in which Dwayne Johnson stars alongside fellow actor, Emily Blunt. He also just wrapped up filming on his upcoming DC debut movie, Black Adam starring alongside Henry Cavill. That is set to release on July 22, 2022. Reports have also just surfaced that Space Jam: A New Legacy director Malcolm D. Lee could have his eye on “The Rock” for a possible third Space Jam movie in the future.
Dwayne Johnson’s cumulative success has not come without its fair share of drama. Since 2018 Dwayne Johnson and Fast & Furious co-star Vin Diesel have been involved in a highly publicized feud. The feud allegedly began after a breakdown in communication over differing opinions relating to their mutual franchise and has been ongoing ever since. Even just recently Vin Diesel spoke to Men’s Health about the never-ending argument between him and Dwayne Johnson. It seems as though Dwayne Johnson has finally had enough of Diesel when he recently confirmed that he will no longer be in any subsequent Fast & Furious films.
