Dwayne Johnson is set to take on a major superhero role soon which will likely place him near the top of the mountain of popular comic book characters when it finally releases. That’s a bit off though and it looks like Johnson isn’t going to stop there with his superhero roles. He’s just been cast in another part, this one an animated role and he’ll be voicing a totally new character for the big screen. Deadline is reporting that Dwayne Johnson is set to voice Krypto the Superdog in DC League of Super-Pets. Not the hero you’d expect for the brawny superstar? Me neither, but this guy can pull almost anything off.
Dwayne Johnson will voice Krypto who is the leader of the group. There’s also Streaky the Supercat, Beppo the Super-Monkey, and Comet the Super-Horse who have yet to be cast. It’s a whole gang of super pets who will get up to some kind of adventure in a much more family-friendly story than what Johnson has coming down the pike in his upcoming live-action role. In some of the comic book stories, Krypto is actually Superman’s dog imbued with similar Kryptonian strength to the original hero. It’s not totally clear if this will be the origin story for the new movie or if it will be tied into the larger DC Universe.
This new project is set to come out in May of next year and will follow the titular group of heroes, with Dwayne Johnson now in the lead. The project has been in development for a couple of years now with shifting release dates. It was originally delayed because of the pandemic. But now it looks like it’s a full go with a major star attached to voice the main role. It’s a big move for the film and further solidifies Johnson in the DC ranks.
DC League of Super-Pets is set to release just a couple of months before Dwayne Johnson takes a major turn as a superhero on the big screen. That’s because Black Adam is going to hit theaters in late July of 2022 with Johnson starring as the titular character. It will be his first time playing a character from the comic book pages and will likely be one of the box office hits of next summer. Considering the enormity of Johnson’s fame and his overwhelming talent, this is a major boon for the DC Extended Universe as it pulls something of a reset around new characters.
Dwayne Johnson is currently filming Black Adam which along with bringing this new character into the fold with an origin story, will also go about introducing the Justice Society of America which includes Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Quintessa Swindle as Cyclone, and Noah Contineo as Atom Smasher. The film is likely to trend a little more violent and comedic than other flicks in this franchise, representing a great chance for Johnson to possibly begin carrying some of the DC stories going forward. Now, next summer he’ll be playing both a superhero and a super dog.
