New Dragon Ball Series Gets Special First Episode
The Dragon Ball franchise is a popular one, first started by Akira Toriyama in 1984. Dragon Ball Daima is the newest anime addition to the story, set to release in October of this year. The series is going to air with a bang, taking up a whole 40-minute time slot for its first episode.
Dragon Ball Daima
Beloved fan favorites like Supreme Kai (Yumiko Kobayashi) and Goku (Masako Nozawa) will obviously also be present, though they are miniaturized in this story due to their last fight.
In addition to many familiar faces throughout the series, Dragon Ball Daima will feature two completely new characters, Glorio and Panzy, played by Koki Uchiyama (My Hero Academia) and Fairouz Ai (Chainsaw Man), respectively.
The world is also mostly unfamiliar, set in the Demon Realm, briefly only seen in Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z before this.
Bridging The Gap
There isn’t much known about the story of Dragon Ball Daima as of yet, except that Goku and his friends get transformed into children and travel to a new world to try and get back to normal. The new friends and the enemies they face still remain a mystery.
Dragon Ball Daima is said to fill the gap between the story of Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super. Specifically, it will be set after Majin Buu is defeated by the Z Fighters and before Beerus, the God of Destruction, enters the story.
Akira Yoiyama
Dragon Ball Daima is directed by both Yoshitaka Yashima (Digimon Adventure and Aya Komaki (One Piece), who work for Toei Animation (Mononoke). Additionally, before he passed away, Akira Yoiyama worked on the original story and character designs for the new series.
He wasn’t supposed to be involved, but he and the team continued to collaborate until he was deeply involved in the story, worldview, character design, and several other areas.
Already Finished
Interestingly, Yuichi Nakajima, the head of programming for Fuji TV, said that all of the episodes for Dragon Ball Daima are already finished and set to air. There are many studios where episodes for anime are worked on up until the last minute, which is what gets anime like Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead in trouble when they can’t keep up with the busy deadlines.
However, this is good news as it’s very unlikely the new Dragon Ball series will face any delays in its weekly releases, as it’s pretty much already finished.
Release Changes
There was some other interesting information released by Naajima, which is the change in release times in Japan. Both Dragon Ball Kai and Dragon Ball Super aired on Sunday mornings in Japan. However, Dragon Ball Daima is set to release on Friday nights, close to midnight, to make it easier to reach a broad demographic.
The first episode of Dragon Ball Daima is set to air on October 11, the same day as Dragon Ball: Sparkling! ZERO, the video game, is released. It will be roughly twice the length of traditional anime episodes, with a 40-minute time slot.
Despite the release day for Japan being mentioned, there is no word as of yet when Dragon Ball Daima will be released to the rest of the world, nor what platform it will be on.
