Donald Trump The Apprentice Movie Finally Heading To America After Controversy

By Jason Collins | Published

The Apprentice, a documentary-style dramatic version of former president Donald Trump’s early days, may finally have found a distributor now that Kinematics is soon to be bought out of Daniel Snyder’s $5 million investment, with Tom Ortenberg (who runs Briarcliff Entertainment) getting close to acquiring the movie for a fall release.

The Apprentice Might Be In Theaters This Fall

Ortenberg is the only distributor willing or courageous enough to step up and distribute The Apprentice, and he has been trying to strike a deal covering the movie for at least a month now. Sources state that offshore territories were acquired quickly, and those releases are expected to take place after the movie plays in the US during the upcoming presidential campaign in late September and October. Other release dates are possible, but nothing is set in stone until the distribution deal is made, with hopes that it happens before the week’s end.

The Art Of The Deal

Snyder invested the money in The Apprentice movie via Kinematics, which is now being bought out. It’s believed that money was raised to cover Snyder’s investment, with a premium. However, nobody involved in the supposed deal has confirmed what’s happening.

It’s worth noting that this is a developing story about a movie that’s in danger of never receiving an official release in America. That’s now in question, considering that Tom Ortenberg has previous experience with distributing movies that feature provocative subject matter.

The Rise Of Donald Trump

For those who aren’t aware, The Apprentice movie centers on the formative years of Donald Trump, who is set to make another run for the White House this fall. The movie is directed by Ali Abbasi and written by Gabriel Sherman, starring the Avengers’ Sebastian Stan as Donald Trump and Jeremy Strong as his mentor lawyer Roy Cohn, with Maria Balakova from the MCU portraying Trump’s ex-wife Ivana Trump.

A Huge Hit On The Festival Circuit

The Apprentice was one of the hottest releases at the Cannes Film Festival, despite the fact that it was immediately obvious that all the major studios would steer clear from the movie. And that’s not without good reason.

The prospect of having award-winning actors such as Strong, Stan, and Bakalova starring in a provocative story that’s guaranteed to be a must-see is completely overshadowed by the fact that Trump’s potential return to the White House could create problems for any company and talent behind the movie.

Poking The Political Bear

Some say that Trump could sue the makers and distributors of The Apprentice, but considering just how well-documented his life is, those legal actions probably wouldn’t go too far. Yet, for most studios, not poking the political bear seems to be the safest bet for survival.

Fortunately, there are still those who believe in the freedom of speech and artistic expression, who aren’t afraid to speak their mind and opinions—after all, the pen is the mightiest of swords because it gives birth to ideas, and as Hugo Weaving’s V famously declared, “ideas are bulletproof.”

The Apprentice still hasn’t received a release date, but if the reports are factual, we could see the movie’s release coincide with the upcoming elections.
