See Dominique Thorne As Ironheart In First Look Photos
Check out the first images of Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams who will take on the Ironheart armor for the first time.
Marvel is headed into new Phases over the next couple of years and ever since the end of the Avengers timeline we’ve been slowly introduced to a new, and younger, group of heroes who will eventually take the reins of the MCU. That’s also coming in stages with some having hit the scene already. But there are more to come. One of them is going to be Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams who eventually takes on the Ironheart alter ego. The series is slated for Disney+ and we are getting one of our first chances to see what the character will look like on the small screen. Images were leaked from the set that show Thorne in full metal costume, one with the helmet on and one off to see her face. It’s a fantastic new update from the series that’s been filming for a few months now. Check out the first images of Ironheart from @therealsupes (via CBR):
While Dominique Thorne as Ironheart won’t be a 1:1 replacement for Roberty Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark/ Iron Man, for now, it is going to be the next iteration of this type of character. In the comics, Riri Williams doesn’t have an association with Tony Stark but is a genius inventor who, while studying at MIT is able to recreate much of what Stark was able to do with the Iron Man suits. Eventually, she enters the Tony Stark sphere (though he’s since passed) and is able to access more technology, but the character is notable because she’s got all of the skills on her own to become this type of superhero.
We are first going to see Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever though it’s unclear what form we will see the character. It’s likely it’s just a cameo meant to set the stage for what is to come in Ironheart. While the show is currently filming we don’t know a ton about how things will shake out with the show. Other cast members include Alden Ehrenreich, Anthony Ramos, Shea Coulee, and some others though Disney and Marvel haven’t disclosed what those roles will be. For the most part, this show has been kept under lock and key.
Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams/ Ironheart is part of the Marvel youth movement we are seeing throughout the universe right now. It started with Hailee Steinfeld in Hawkeye when she teamed up with Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton. And it’s continued with Iman Vellani as Kamala Kahn/ Ms. Marvel on the show of the same name. Such is the way of the future with this studio who’s done such an unbelievable job of threading the needle with their characters as they move the stories on over years and years. Bringing on the new blood for more stories is something we will see coming and will likely continue to be the case as groups like the X-Men and others are brought into the fold.
There is currently no timetable on when we will see Dominque Thorne in Ironheart on Disney+, but conventional wisdom says that it will be sometime in 2023.
