Back in late 2020, Taco Bell thought they would further add to the chaotic mess of that year and do away with their Mexican Pizza. Why they would do that when so many of us were on the fringe of mental collapse is anyone’s guess, but boy did they face a lot of backlash. As many of you have probably already heard, the chain is preparing to bring the fan-favorite item back on May 19. Not as a special, not for a limited time, but permanently! Hooray! Something to look forward to. While this was all amazing news in and of itself, it was made even better when Taco Bell announced that they would be partnering with country music icon, Dolly Parton, to create a musical surrounding the Mexican Pizza’s return.

No need to adjust your glasses, you read that right. THE Dolly Parton will be making a musical titled Mexican Pizza: The Musical to celebrate the return of a Taco Bell item. While Dolly herself is more of a soft-shell kinda gal, as she revealed to Insider back in January, who isn’t going to rally around the cuisine bending Mexican Pizza? Centering around those at the front of the lines advocating for the return of the beloved menu item, the production is set to land on May 26 on TikTok. It will not only feature our country music queen but will also display the talents of Doja Cat because technically she’s the person who got the wheels turning for the musical support behind the return of the crunchy treat.

In an earworm of a jingle, Doja Cat took to TikTok to drop a beat and rap some lyrics surrounding her love for Mexican Pizza and her dream of its return. Some of the lyrics include “I like my pizza with refried beans” and “I need a shell with the sauce and cheese.” Like the Mexican Pizza, Doja’s tune is truly *chef’s kiss*. Along with the talents of Doja Cat and Dolly Parton, Taco Bell has managed to get acclaimed writer, Hannah Friedman (Obi-Wan Kenobi) on board to write the book for the satirical musical. Meanwhile, Grammy award-winning musicians, Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear composed the score. This all sounds like a fever dream, but we assure you – it’s real.

Dolly Parton’s involvement in the celebration of bringing back the soon-to-be returning Taco Bell meal really solidifies her place as a philanthropist. Being a voice for women’s rights? Sure. Standing up to fight homophobia everywhere? You got it. Donating massive amounts of money to help research centers around the world fight diseases? Mhmm. But, joining the platform of the well-loved Mexican Pizza? Now that brings it all the way home for the woman who should be the leader of the free world.

While Taco Bell tried to ruin 2020 even further by ripping the Mexican Pizza off of their menu for what seemed like forever, Dolly Parton’s involvement in their bizarre musical is the best way for them to make amends. While all is not yet forgiven, by bringing our crunchy, beany, beefy beloved back to the menu and throwing in a witty musical starring legend to go along with it, we’re beginning to forgive and forget.
