Doctor Strange Spin-Off Series In The Works?
The Marvel comic book Strange Academy is reportedly being developed as a Disney+ series.
Just when we thought that things couldn’t get any more exciting for those of us who identify as Marvel fans, Reddit comes in clutch revealing that a Doctor Strange spin-off series is possibly in the works. The rumor mill is churning on Reddit’s Tales from the Mod Queue who believe that Marvel and Disney+ are teaming up for a show that would center around the Strange Academy comic book. While nothing has been confirmed at this point, the series could see a plot revolving around the school that teaches those new to magic how to better control and wield their powers.
In the original comics, which were penned by Skottie Young and Humberto Ramos, fans turned the pages to find out more about the academy run by Doctor Strange with help from other major Marvel characters like Scarlet Witch and Magik. Mod Queue’s sources have claimed that the Doctor Strange spin-off would star Sorcerer Supreme, Wong (Benedict Wong) and feature America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) who was recently introduced to the MCU via Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. According to the sources, the series would deviate from the comics and center more on Wong versus Doctor Strange.
For those who may not remember the happenings of Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, we were introduced to America Chavez, a teenager with the ability to jump between realities. The girl’s skill was wanted by Wanda aka the Scarlet Witch following the events of Disney+’s series WandaVision, a desperation that saw the Avenger turn into the film’s big bad. While Wanda and her family’s fate seemed sealed at the end of the film, the MCU is always full of surprises, meaning that any and all characters could return for a Doctor Strange spin-off.
While it may be a while until we find out whether the rumors surrounding a Doctor Strange spin-off are based in any sort of reality – multiverse or otherwise – Marvel has plenty of other projects coming up in its Phase Five ready to blow their devoted following away. In just over a month, the latest batch of content will kick off with the highly anticipated return of Scott Lang, Hope Pym, and Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, with other films including the final installment of Guardians of the Galaxy, The Marvels, Captain America: New World Order, Thunderbolts, and Blade coming between 2023 and 2024. On the small screen, Disney+ will be teaming up with Marvel to bring audiences series including the second season of both What If…? and Loki, along with new productions such as Secret Invasion, Ironheart, Echo, Agatha: Coven of Chaos, and Daredevil: Born Again.
