Doctor Strange 2 has recently wrapped up reshoots. Although principal photography had wrapped up a few months ago, it was announced that many reshoots were going to be made. Why? So that more characters and cameos could be introduced into the new film. That means the Multiverse promises will likely be that much more extensive. It seems that Marvel is deadset on introducing as much chaos as possible. It was odd timing for the reshoots, as Spider-Man: No Way Home has been released, and the plot is heavily concerned with multiverse situations.
It’s also been reported that the reshoots for Doctor Strange 2 are heavily influenced by Spider-Man: No Way Home and Loki, which began to break open the storyline of the Multiverse and the “sacred timeline.” Loki also introduced the first makings of Kang the Conquerer, who goes around dominating said timelines. There is no telling if Kang is going to make an appearance in the new Spider-Man film, but he might be the next big baddie that the Marvel superheroes will have to face off against. A time-traveling villain could make for quite a compelling group of films.
Doctor Strange is already set to be a focal point of Spider-Man: No Way Home and the fallout from this film might give way to deeper corrections that either Peter Parker or Strange have messed up. This would make total sense considering that Doctor Strange 2 is titled Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness. There can’t be madness unless Marvel plans to throw as many timelines, characters, and cameos at everyone. That would definitely be the kind of anarchy we’d want.
Marvel has been reportedly surprised and happy with the surprise cameos that exist in Spider-Man: No Way Home and has now seen fit to warrant the same kind of treatment with Doctor Strange 2. The MCU films haven’t missed the mark when it comes to blending many films together, so the possibility that even more future storylines can be wrapped together in the new Doctor Strange film. Surprise cameos are always fun, like Abomination returning in Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Abomination was first introduced in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. It’s taken Marvel 13 years to bring back a fan-favorite villain. Hopefully, someone like Venom is next for his MCU debut.
Doctor Strange 2 star Benedict Cumberbatch confirmed the reshoots and his excitement for them in a recent interview. According to him, “And yeah we’re making it even better: we’ve got some reshoots coming up in November and December, and it comes out in May. And I guess you’ll have to wait until then… That’s all you get.” The excitement in blending a multitude of Marvel stories past and future together sure sounds like it’s a shared vision by all.
Marvel has been quite efficient when keeping their film’s secrets under wraps unless of course Tom Holland is concerned, but he has little to do with the new Doctor Strange film, or so it seems. Doctor Strange 2 is not slated to premiere until May of 2022, and barring any unfortunate spoilers, it sounds as if the MCU-loving world will be plenty surprised by what is going to happen next.
