Did Disney Spoil A Major Mandalorian Surprise?
The Mandalorian season 3 will feature the return of Boba Fett.
It appears as though Boba Fett has been confirmed to show up in The Mandalorian‘s upcoming third season. CBR is reporting that an official Star Wars Facebook account run out of Hong Kong may have accidentally let it slip that the famed Mandalorian will appear as one of the third season’s many Beskar-wearing bounty hunters. The third season has already been rumored to be the most Mandalorian-heavy season yet, with Pedro Pascal‘s Din Djarin traveling back to his home world of Mandalore in order to repent for removing his helmet in the presence of others.
Despite Boba Fett’s alleged death scene in 1983’s Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi, the fan-favorite character made his triumphant return in the second season of The Mandalorian before going on to star in his own Disney+ spinoff show. Boba Fett’s comeback was harkened by a chorus of fanfare, considering the iconic character is often derided for his lack of usefulness in his original appearances. In his Mandalorian arc, as well as his own series, Boba Fett has finally been properly utilized and presented as a successful and resourceful bounty hunter.
Boba Fett has been portrayed throughout each series by veteran Star Wars actor Temuera Morrison, who previously portrayed Jango Fett, Boba’s father. The Disney+ limited series The Book of Boba Fett seemed to act as something of a companion piece to The Mandalorian, bridging the canonical gap between the second and third seasons of the hit show, and displaying Fett’s involvement in returning Grogu, best known colloquially as ‘Baby Yoda’ to his rightful home. While it has long been rumored that Boba Fett will continue to appear in the series, the Hong Kong Facebook account seems to have unintentionally spoiled the surprise.
If the iconic character does make his rumored return, he’ll be in excellent company, as the series promises to provide viewers with a never-before-seen exploration of the world of Madalore. Once Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin arrives on the planet, he’ll likely be encountering the former, and perhaps future Mandalorian leader Bo-Katan Kryze, as played by Katee Sackhoff, alongside a host of other Beskar-clad characters. Fans of the previous two seasons have been on the edge of their seats waiting to learn more about the secretive land of Mandalore and its elusive people since the series was first announced back in 2018.
The Mandalorian may need to rely on big-name cameos and guest appearances in order to pull in numbers as it competes directly against Pascal’s other big show, The Last Of Us. The final two episodes of The Last Of Us‘ first season are set to air on the same evenings as the first two episodes of The Mandalorian season 3, leaving fans of Pedro Pascal buried under an embarrassment of riches.
The third season of The Mandalorian premieres March 1st on Disney+. The fourth season of the hit show is expected to begin filming as early as the fall of this year. The first two seasons of the show are currently available to stream, as well as the first season of The Book Of Boba Fett.
