The Disney+ Sci-Fi Thriller Sequel Gets More Intense Than The Original
John Krasinski’s 2018 film A Quiet Place presented audiences with an incredible concept and executed that concept in an immensely satisfying way. While the taut and tense horror film could have ended after the first, we ended up getting A Quiet Place Part II, which is more action-oriented but no less thrilling of a sequel. You can check out the film on the Hulu section of Disney+ if you have a subscription to both streaming services.

John Krasinski once again took on directing and writing duties for A Quiet Place Part II, with Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe, and Krasinski all reprising their roles from the original. The film follows the family from the first film as they continue to make their way through a post-apocalyptic world infested with aliens that hunt through sound. The film also adds Cillian Murphy, Djimon Hounsou, Scoot McNairy, and Okieriete Onaodowan to the cast.
A Bigger Budget
The unexpected success of the first film led to A Quiet Place Part II getting quickly greenlit, with a much bigger budget than the shoestring $17 million that the first film was made for. While the original was able to do plenty with its minimal budget, the sequel is certainly a more funded film, as the adventures of the family expand well beyond the farm where much of A Quiet Place unfolds. In essence, A Quiet Place Part II and the first film are what Aliens is to Alien
A Long Delayed Sequel
Although A Quiet Place Part II was greenlit in 2018 after the first film made buckets of money, we had to wait a little while for the movie to come out. The COVID-19 pandemic led to multiple release postponements before it finally had a wide theatrical release in May 2021. Audiences could also stream the movie 45 days after the theatrical release on Paramount+.
A Mixed Reception
While A Quiet Place Part II is an undoubtedly great thriller, your results may vary on whether you enjoy it as much as the original. As mentioned, there’s more action this time around, and the humans aren’t quite as defenseless after the events of the first film. You trade the more action-oriented nature of the film for the taut and close-quarters horror of the original.
Of course, A Quiet Place Part II did great at the box office, bringing in around $297.4 million worldwide. Since Krasinki had more ideas for the franchise, the studios greenlit even more films, with a spin-off scheduled to release this year and a sequel for the flagship franchise releasing in 2025. In other words, now is a great time to catch up on the first two films in the series.
More To Come
The spin-off film is titled A Quiet Place: Day One and is written and directed by Michael Sarnoski, based on an original story by Krasinski. Krasinski is also on board as a producer, along with Michael Bay, Andrew Form, and Brad Fuller. There aren’t many details about the plot, but Lupita Nyong’o, Joseph Quinn, Denis O’Hare, Alex Wolff, and Djimon Hounsou were all announced as part of the cast.
In 2025, we can look forward to A Quiet Place Part III, which will see John Krasinski return as writer and director. Presumably, we’ll be seeing several of the main cast return from the second film as well. Until then, make sure to go check out A Quiet Place Part II in the Hulu section of Disney+
