Disney Cancels The Biggest Star Wars Project Of All Time
The Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser interactive experience at Disney World is being shut down.
If you’re looking to take out a second mortgage to witness Disney World’s Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser attraction, then you better make your way to the bank and get the ball rolling on the process. According to Deadline, the Galactic Starcruiser will be taking its final voyage between September 28 and 30 before the immersive, innovative (and expensive!) homage to the Star Wars universe closes up shop for good. Disney‘s official statement on the matter suggests that shutting down the Galactic Starcruiser was a “business decision” and didn’t really elaborate further on the matter.
What the statement did suggest, however, is that the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser may have been a proof of concept for other upcoming attractions that have not been revealed yet. In their statement, Disney said that they will take what they’ve learned from the Galactic Starcruiser project, and apply it to future projects that will be able to “reach more of their guests and fans.” If we had to guess, it sounds like they want to design a more affordable attraction at some point.
At least we could only hope, considering that the Galactic Starcruiser only opened in March 2022, which isn’t exactly what we would consider to be a “legendary run.”
The Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser experience is one of Disney’s most ambitious features to date and offers so much more than just a two-night hotel stay with Star Wars memorabilia on the walls. With prices ranging from $4,800 for two guests to $6,000 for four guests sharing a cabin, the attraction boasts not only lodging, but food, immersive missions with crew members and other guests, and activities that will fill up your entire day in a way that allows you to live out even your wildest Star Wars fantasies.
Perhaps one of the most alluring parts about the meticulously detailed Star Wars-themed resort is the attention to detail in crafting artifacts that are true to the Star Wars Franchise. In fact, Disney Parks and Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro even gave a presentation of a “real” lightsaber at SXSW this past March. It’s this kind of attention to detail that has guests absolutely awestruck as they are totally thrust into a galaxy far, far away throughout the duration of their stay.
Though there are still openings to experience the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, new reservations are currently being put on pause while Disney works with guests who have previously booked their stay past September 30 to “modify their plans.” These guests will get the first opportunity to claim a new reservation since they are already ticket holders. But if you’re looking to book a trip yourself and experience Star War like you never have before, reservations will reopen on Friday, May 26, once that matter has been settled.
So if you’ve got some extra mad money at your disposal, and want to satisfy your inner child in the form of living inside of a Star Wars movie for two days, then your time is running out! It’s not every day that you get to wield a lightsaber, hang out with R2D2, and role-play with the crew while running missions. But it’s worth noting that alcohol isn’t included in the package, so if you want to have a beer with Chewbacca, make sure you bring some extra cash with you if you have any left after booking your stay.
