Twister Is Finally Getting The Upgrade It Deserves
Fans of 1996’s Twister will surely be overjoyed to learn that the cult classic Academy Award-nominated film has finally been selected to receive a 4K UHD and digital remaster, bringing the classic film to a whole new audience of disaster movie fans.
The movie will be available to purchase at major retailers in both physical and digital copies as early as July 9. The latest remaster of the 1996 film will retail out for $33.99, and offer a wide array of new bonus features for fans who just can’t get enough Twister content in their lives.
Loaded With Special Features
Specific special features set to appear on the Twister 4K remaster include a music video for Van Halen’s hit 1996 song “Humans Being,” which appeared on the soundtrack of the original film, as well as a pair of featurettes titled “The Making of Twister” and “Anatomy of a Twister,” which showcase the film’s production and the actual science behind tornadoes, respectively. There will also be a brand new Twister commentary track featuring insight from filmmaker Jan de Bont and the film’s visual effects supervisor Stefen Fangmeier.
From Box Office Smash To Cult Classic
When Twister released over 25 years ago, the film, which starred Helen Hunt, Bill Paxton, Cary Elwes, and Jami Gertz, made a major splash at the box office, taking in nearly $496 million against an estimated production budget of only $92 million.
The film was the second-highest-grossing movie of 1996, second only to another iconic disaster movie, Independence Day, and even took home Oscar nominations for Best Visual Effects and Best Sound. Twister has since become relegated to cult classic status, as it has failed to retain a stranglehold over modern pop culture, though the forthcoming 4K remaster will provide fans all over the world with an opportunity to relive the swirling mania of an incoming tornado.
Just In Time For Upcoming Sequel
The Twister 4K remaster is on pace to hit shelves just a week and a half before the upcoming sequel film, Twisters, in a perfectly timed bit of synergy. Those who have not had the chance to rewatch the original film in a while should definitely capitalize on the newfound opportunity to catch it in crisp 4K resolution before turning up in theaters to see the legacy sequel, which is slated to star Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones, and Anthony Ramos.
Available For Home Viewing At Most Major Retailers
Those interested in snatching up physical copies of the Twister 4K Blu-ray can expect to see the film lining shelves at Walmart, Target, and other major retailers on July 9.

And of course, if you just can’t get enough Twister in your life, the legacy sequel, Twisters, will be in theaters on July 19, making that week a perfect time to gather some friends and watch the 4K release.
