Andor is currently filming its first season for Disney+. So far, we know that they’re using set locations in England. They’ve been around London. A few weeks ago, they were filming in a refinery in Essex. Now, actor Diego Luna has joined the cast and crew in Cleveleys, a town on the Fylde coast. Thanks to StreetRogue Photography, we have our first look at the actor on set reprising his role as Cassian Andor.
The photographer says not to be fooled by the brightly shining sun in these photos, it is bitterly cold. In the photos, we see Diego Luna is wearing a big warm coat between takes. The photos are in a YouTube video. It’s set to start at the 0:36 mark where the photos begin. We first see the actor himself at the 0:56 mark.
The video also gives a peek at some sandtroopers and a peek at the set. If you want to see more set photos, the same photographer did a photo tour video of the set. The pictures begin in the YouTube video at the 1:06 mark. You won’t see Diego Luna or any of the rest of the cast in that one, just a deeper walkthrough on the set.
Diego Luna first played Cassian Andor in Rogue One. He has previously said that when he showed up on the red carpet, his experience was bittersweet because he knew that his amazing Star Wars adventure was nearly over. The movie was a one-shot and that would be all. But then, he says, a miracle happened, and now the Andor series is filming for Disney+. While filming has begun, we don’t yet have a release date for the show. Currently, it sounds like we’re looking at seeing the series streaming on Disney+ in 2022. Filming and release dates were previously delayed due to the pandemic, but it sounds like things are now back on track and moving forward. We’re expecting to see 12 episodes the first season, and it sounds like Lucasfilm is planning for the series to be ongoing.
Andor is a prequel series for Diego Luna’s character. We’re going to meet up with the Rebel Alliance intelligence officer five years before the events in Rogue One. While many were hoping and assuming that K-2SO, the droid voiced by Alan Tudyk, would be appearing in the series, the droid is apparently not going to be in season one. The droid was included in a lot of the announcements for Andor, so this bit of news is a touch confusing. Tudyk confirmed in an interview for Collider that he isn’t in the first season, and was completely sure of this since filming was already underway and he wasn’t in it. However, he is hopeful that the series will continue and he’ll be included in future seasons. Eventually, Cassian Andor will have to meet up with the droid.
Genevieve O’Reilly played Mon Mothma in Rogue One and will be returning with Diego Luna for the new series. They’ll be joined by Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona, Kyle Soller, Fiona Shaw, and Denise Gough.
