Off-The-Walls Die Hard Parody Divides Audiences And Critics On Netflix
If you spent any time watching Comedy Central programming on cable in the 2010s, you’re likely familiar with the hilariously weird series Workaholics, which ran for seven seasons after premiering back in 2011. Though fans of the show have been waiting for years to see the long-teased Workaholics spinoff movie, many fans may not realize that the team behind the hit show has already reunited for a ridiculous off-beat comedy feature, with 2018’s Game Over Man.
The film, which originally premiered on Netflix, is still available on the streaming library today for those interested in checking it out.
Not A Workaholics Reunion But It Is A Workaholics Reunion
Much like the Workaholics television series, Game Over Man was written and developed by the comedy sketch troupe known as Mail Order Comedy, which consists of Anders Holm, Adam Devine, Blake Anderson, and Kyle Newacheck.
Newacheck directed the feature film, while the other three took on starring roles alongside a number of other talented comedic performers such as Chloe Bridges, Andrew Bachelor, Sam Richardson, Steve Howey, and The Boys‘ Aya Cash. The film also casts a number of A-list entertainers and pop culture figures to cameo as fictionalized versions of themselves, including Shaggy, Steve-O, Action Bronson, Mark Cuban, and Community‘s Joel McHale.
Slack Hard
The narrative of Game Over Man centers on a trio of absent-minded slackers who may as well just be the same gang from Workaholics, though their cushy office job has been swapped for a housekeeping gig in an upscale Los Angeles hotel. During a special event at the hotel, the trio convene to pitch a few wacky business proposals to a visiting foreign dignitary, though their plans are thwarted when a group of terrorists storm the hotel and take everyone in the building hostage.
As the narrative of Game Over Man plays out, the film answers the age-old question, “what if John McClane from Die Hard were three loser pot-heads instead of one bad-ass cop?”
Critics Hate Fun
Game Over Man was not reviewed well by critics and may have actually hampered the Mail Order Comedy gang’s future prospects of making straightforward comedy films. Still, I personally found this film to be a lot of fun, and I still find myself putting it on when I need a low-commitment 90-minute movie with some easy-to-swallow jokes.
Has New Meaning For Fans
Fans of Workaholics will surely relish the experience of seeing Blake, Anders, and Adam take on a more action-packed plot than usual, even if the film ultimately received a paltry 18 percent critic score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Now that it’s been essentially confirmed that the long-awaited Workaholics movie isn’t happening, I feel that fans of the show will return to Game Over Man with fresh eyes and open hearts and receive the material with more warmth than they initially had back in 2018.

REVIEW SCORE
Of course, there’s no way to know for sure what the future holds for the Mail Order Comedy gang, so hopefully, we’ll still get the chance to see Anders Holm, Adam DeVine, and Blake Anderson unite on the big screen once more. Those interested in streaming Game Over Man can watch the controversial comedy today on Netflix.
