Denzel Washington Is Back And More Brutal Than Ever In The Equalizer 3 Trailer
The trailer to The Equalizer 3, featuring Denzel Washington as Robert McCall one more time.
Denzel Washington has had quite a few amazing roles in Hollywood, including starring roles in Spike Lee’s Malcolm X, Inside Man, Training Day, Remember the Titans, American Gangster, 2 Guns, and many other films over a span of decades. Still, the actor has only reprised a role for one franchise. Now, according to a new trailer, Washington will reprise his role yet again in the upcoming The Equalizer 3 set to hit theaters on September 1st, 2023.
The Equalizer 3 trailer begins on an estate in Italy, where a group of mobsters discovers a compound full of dead, bullet-ridden mobsters who have found themselves on the wrong side of Denzel Washington’s Robert McCall. It is soon revealed that McCall has retired to a small, peaceful Italian town, where he’s made friends with and been adopted by the locals. Everything isn’t as idyllic as it seems, and when McCall learns that the town is being controlled by an underground mafia network that has been terrorizing the town’s citizens, he takes it upon himself to protect the place that he now calls home.
One of the most revelatory parts of The Equalizer 3 trailer outside of the requisite action movie explosions and badass Denzel Washington action scenes is a quick but consequential cameo from actress Dakota Fanning. The appearance reunites Fanning and Washington after working together in 2004’s Man on Fire when the actress was only 10 years old. Fanning had amazingly already established herself as a prominent name in Hollywood by that time after receiving a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination at the age of eight for her role in 2001’s I Am Sam.
The Equalizer 3 trailer is what many expect from Denzel Washington and The Equalizer franchise. Director Antoine Fuqua returns, marking the fifth collaboration between himself and Denzel Washington since first working together on 2002’s Training Day alongside Ethan Hawke. Writer Richard Wenk also returns after penning both The Equalizer and its 2018 sequel The Equalizer 2.
Before The Equalizer 3, Denzel Washington starred in the original Equalizer film alongside Chloë Grace Moretz, Bill Pullman, and a pre-Stranger Things David Harbour. It featured Robert Mccall, a former U.S. Marine turned DIA intelligence officer living a peaceful life in Boston before being called to return to action when he’s charged with the protection of a teenage prostitute wanted by the Russian mafia.
The Equalizer 2 saw Denzel Washington’s Robert McCall set out on a path of revenge after one of his friends is murdered. Washington starred across Pedro Pascal prior to his successful runs starring in The Mandalorian and The Last of Us. The actor portrayed a character who ironically suffers a fate similar to that of his character Oberyn Martell in Game of Thrones.
Denzel Washington has long been a staple in Hollywood and is widely regarded as one of his generation’s most charming and talented actors. His list of accolades includes a Tony Award, two Academy Awards, three Golden Globe Awards, and being named the greatest actor of the 21st century by the New York Times in 2020. Fans will want to catch The Equalizer 3 and see Washington in the final chapter of what may be his only-ever franchise-reprising appearance.
