Denzel Washington Is #1 On Netflix With New Action Thriller

Considering how it secured the number one spot in just a couple of days, it’s safe to say that Robert McCall is still a force to be reckoned with whether he’s at home or abroad.

Even though Denzel Washington had nearly five years off from the franchise since The Equalizer 2 made its rounds, he doesn’t waste any time setting the tone for what unfolds in The Equalizer 3.

The Equalizer 3 picks up where its predecessor left off and finds former U.S. marine Robert McCall residing in the coastal Italian town of Altamonte.

Having sustained a gunshot wound to the back after killing crime enforcer Lorenzo Vitale at a winery in Sicily, McCall recovers from his wound and establishes a relationship with the citizens of the remote neighboring town.

He quickly learns about a criminal organization called the Camorra and its intention to push the townspeople out of their homes so they can expand their operations.

Operating in a cool and calculating way that only Denzel Washington could expertly portray, McCall tips off CIA officer Emma Collins about the Camorra.

But the damage has already been done, as members of the crime group are already harassing the locals and getting violent with shopkeepers. From this point forward, The Equalizer 3 continually escalates into a bloodbath that will make even the most seasoned of action movie fans squirm in their seats.

Upon its September 2023 theatrical release, The Equalizer 3 broke franchise records when it earned $42 million over its Labor Day opening weekend.

At this point in time, the SAG-AFTRA strike was still ongoing, so Denzel Washington and the rest of the cast couldn’t actively promote the film ahead of its release.

But despite a lack of promotion, The Equalizer 3 still beat out the first two installment’s opening weekend numbers by a considerable margin.

By the end of its theatrical run, The Equalizer 3 earned a total of $191 million at the worldwide box office against its reported budget of $70 million, making it a commercial success.

Critically speaking, the Denzel Washington film garnered a 76 percent critical score against an audience score of 94 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Audiences overwhelmingly agree that this third and final installment took everything that made the first two Equalizer films work and ended the franchise on a high note.

What’s more, Denzel Washington’s ability to shift Robert McCall’s countenance from subdued and unassuming to unrelentingly violent at the drop of a hat has won over audiences by and large.

If you have yet to witness The Equalizer 3 in all of its glory, you need to immediately stop what you’re doing and add it to your Netflix queue.

Though there have been talks of a prequel, Denzel Washington has gone on record saying that he won’t return to any future installments. And you can’t blame him for wanting to go out on top.
