Denzel Washington Celebrates Over Four Decades Of Marriage
Denzel Washington and his wife Pauletta Washington recently attended the premiere of their son’s directorial debut, The Piano Lesson, at the Toronto International Film Festival while also revealing some tips on how they’ve had a successful marriage of over 40 years. Talking to People on the red carpet, Pauletta revealed, “There is no secret,” adding, “We work at it. It’s work.”

Meanwhile, Denzel Washington and Pauletta’s son, Malcolm, revealed he’s still trying to figure out the secret to their marriage success as well, saying, “I don’t know, they love each other, but I don’t know what the secret is,” adding, “I’m trying to find out.” In the meantime, the Washington family has plenty to celebrate alongside the couple’s 41 years of being happily married. Along with Malcolm Washington directing The Piano Lesson, the film also stars John David Washington, the couple’s other son, and their daughter, Katia, has a producing credit on the film.
Denzel Washington also co-produced his son’s film, and Malcolm even made a touching tribute by dedicating the production of the film to his mother. Denzel and Pauletta Washington’s happy marriage has clearly created a family that will be Hollywood mainstays for years to come. The Piano Lesson is an adaptation of the 1987 August Wilson play and tells the story of two siblings battling over a family heirloom. Along with John David Washington, the film stars Samuel L. Jackson, Danielle Brooks, Danielle Deadwyler, Ray Fisher, Erykah Badu, and Corey Hawkins. It seems fitting that Denzel Washington and Pauletta are able to celebrate their 40-plus years of marriage while watching a film directed by their son about family legacy.
